That's next for me. The ships look awesome. However, I think I will wait until the youngest is 2 y/o for a Disney Cruise.

I'm going during Thanksgiving this year. Staying at Port Orleans. Never stayed there but I hear it's okay.

I stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and it's nice. It's older but it's well kept up and convenient. You can go right out back and take a river shuttle to downtown Disney.

The Port Orleans is two Louisiana-ish resorts. The Jazzy Mardi Gras Mansion theming of the French Quarter area and the cajun swamp wilderness Riverside portion.

Guest of each are allowed to pool hop.

I'll take the Riverside any day. Very comfortable and the rooms have a trundle bed so with 2 kids, each had their own bed. Plus there is fishing, carriage rides (bring champagne), fantastic entertainment in the lounge, decent restaurants and a nice food court. Plus lots of quiet pools and areas.

Respectfully - as a veteran of over half a dozen visits to WDW over the past 40 years - as a child and adult with children, dragging toddlers around the resort sounds like my idea of hell - particularly on:

To be fair, you're asking for specific advice about particular resorts, and I can't speak to those, beyond the fact that Disney does the hospitality business well. Even the budget resorts are done well - although they are crowded and the rooms are quite small.

We stay at Shades of Green. If I deviated from that, it would be to either the Polynesian or the Floridian. With Toddlers - and a focus on the Magic Kingdom, I would probably go to the Contemporary (our first stay was there and that was incredibly convenient - well worth the premium).

I think 4 years old is the minimum age for them to have any specific memories of the visit.

I've stayed at Riverside in 2012 and 2014. Stayed on the Plantation side in 2012 and the Alligator Bayou side in 2014. It's really nice. I will probably stay somewhere different next visit just to change it up.

Well, as a veteran of over 20 visits in the last 20 years with 2 kids I can say it's what you make it. If you're a miserable person in general you will have a miserable experience. With just minimal planning you can make all of the things people bitch about completely disappear.

I love this point that always gets brought up in a Disney thread. It's like people think you shouldn't leave the house with a kid until it's 4-8yrs old. "Nah honey, I don't want to take junior baby to the zoo. He's only 2. Oh the mall? Nah, Sally won't remember her first trip to the Gap." Silly.

Yeah, because going to the zoo or the mall is exactly the same as going to WDW.

People always go to those two extremes...

"Bringing a small child in the middle of summer is hell"

"Do you never vacation with a small child?"

And as always, reality is somewhere in the middle and is strongly based on expectations and desires.

We brought a 1 yo last january. But it was a trip for us. We were running the races and spent a few days afterward. We go fairly often and haven't felt the need to do everything in every park in a single day. We brought family (parents and grandparents) who helped with the kid. And even had one day where we got a sitter so we could take one of the tours that doesn't allow people under 16.

Our next trip will be next November. He'll be 3 and, again, we're bring family (cousin, his wife and daughter). We'll be staying at Bay Lake Tower which is going to be great for mid-day break at Magic Kingdom.

I hate summer in Disney. Too hot for me.

ETA: But to the OP, Port Orleans (Riverside or FQ) is much better overall than CB. Smaller, quieter, better food choices. Neither has a leg up location wise since they're both EPCOT area resorts.

I like going mid May myself.. Early enough that Fl schools still in and Its just warm enough to hit a water park.. anything past that it's way too damn hot.

We went the last week of of this past May and it was nice. Not overly crowded temps were mid 80's now that my youngest one doesn't wake up at buttcrack o dawn we slept later and hit parks more in the evenings..

Yep, sometimes the memories are for the parents as well. My wife's sister took her 2 year old daughter. Lots of cute pictures of her giving characters huge hugs. Young kids can still have fun even if they don't remember it forever.

I get that there are plenty of other great places that you should take your kids. There is nothing wrong with a few Disney trips along the way too.

We're going the week before Halloween this year.

Hoping to scare the shite out of them so bad they'll never want to return ever again.

As far as memories go it is. You don't do shite with kids that young for their memories.

As for the OP's original question. Caribbean is nice but the bus is terrible. They're are multiple stops in the resort so if you're by the wrong one it makes for some interesting travel.

Only thing scary is the price of admission and the shear number of people that will be there

I stayed at the Carribean back in July. I did not enjoy it. The rooms were small and bus terminals were a long walk.

Exactly. We are going for our 5 year anniversary in January, and we'll have a 13 month old in tow. My wife really loves Disney, but we're planning for a slow paced trip.

I actually think Disney is better with young kids as it isn't typically an exposure type vacation like Washington DC or Europe. Also, there is something for everyone.
