What's funny is they closed that one down back in the mid90s and opened up a Super Walmart to replace it.

They did the same in my hometown. People went fricking nuts when it was announced there was a McDonalds inside the new supercenter.

Some of my first memories are going in there with my Grandfather. He used to take me to get hotdogs, popcorn, and a Coke Icee from a little snack bar/concession stand. Man I was super young; maybe 3-4 years old

It took hours and hours of shock treatment and therapy, but today, I can finally say NO!

There's still Big Star grocery stores around here.

One about 5-10 mins from my house.

My first ever job, all 3 months, was at Big Star.

Don't remember when the BR location at Cortana was built -- maybe 86' or so. Anyway, that Christmas season, they had a toy vendor expo where the toy vendors were at the store demonstrating some of the hot toys for that year.

We begged my mom to bring us and she did -- it wasn't as awesome a toy section as we'd hoped, especially since Children's Palace was right down the way in the same shopping center but it was neat to see some toys being demoed and actually getting to handle them.

Walmart really did feel small and folksy. A lot has changed since then.

I knew a guy that moved his family to Arkansas to raise chickens. He did some carpentry on the side and got hired to do some work for a guy named Sam Walton who was building stores and needed managers. So he became a Walmart manager

I don't even think they were in Louisiana yet, or barely).
Thye we're in Louisiana more than a decade before they opened their first store in Florida. It was just all small towns. When they opened the one in Lafayette (mid 80s I think) it was supposedly the largest town they were in for short while. Not sure how accurate that was but that was the word going around then.

I remember they used to advertise that they always looks for American products first. Now they sell foreign made US flags.

We all want to buy American made goods vs. other nations; but at the end of the day, most consumers will always choose the lower cost of two identical products.

At least Walmart employees millions of Americans. Walmart is the biggest private employer of Americans AND gave them all raises in the last year AND established training centers to help those who want to turn their job into a career. Additionally Walmart has a " Made in America" campaign to purchase $250 billion worth of products from American businesses by 2023. Don't see anyone doing this when they don't have to.
