You really think I think that?
Okay, here's what I saw from the video:
Shopper walks past store clerk who is talking to him and rushes up behind him as he approaches the outer door.
Cop sees this and approaches the shopper from the front. This all happens quickly. Although there is no sound, I can't imagine a scenario where the cop is not saying something to the suspected shoplifter.
The shopper appears startled and continues to move towards the door and subtly away from the cop.
The cop pretty quickly starts to grab and strike at the shopper's leg.
Maybe it happened so fast that the shopper didn't have time to process what was happening when he was first confronted and even after he was first struck. But it seems to me that he made a poor choice to continue to resist the cop by refusing to get down and continuing to back away. It makes no sense to me that he would do that.
The bigger point, which I have yet to make in this thread, is this. I think that the antagonistic attitude that has developed regarding cops, and the perception, accurate or exaggerated, that cops are bad, mostly power hungry thugs, out to harm innocent citizens, actually serves to enhance the likelihood that people will resist, and then it becomes self-fulfilling.
Cops need to be reformed and retrained with new policies and tactics. But citizens need to be more considerate and cooperative with cops. I recognize that they have a tough job with many pressures, and that confronting crime is dangerous and messy even in the best of circumstances.

This shouldn't be fricking Russia. An innocent person should be able to go on their way no matter what a cop says. Cops aren't a fricking God. They are public servants. This officer clearly didn't have probable cause so the tomato man should have no obligation to stop. This is America damnit. At least it used to be

So you don't even know if the cop gave him any directions?
All you know is a cop started breaking a dude's leg very quickly after they come into contact?
frick me hahaha

So I guess you think the guy should have said "thank you, sir. May I have another?" after each blow?

He doesn't need probable cause to investigate. He only needs reasonable suspicion. I don't know why the dickhead cop starts whacking with his nightstick. It was wrong an uncalled for, but he can stop the guy for questioning to investigate.

No, but once the beat is on, why doesn't he get down?

Well, what's your advice? If you're innocent and you know it, just tell the cop to go frick himself and go on your merry way? No harm, no foul?

Aha! Now we're getting to the kernel! Thank you for saying this!
This is the attitude I'm trying to figure out. It's nonsensical. Furthermore, it's legally incorrect.

How the hell can you say this dude sorta made his way to the door and a cop ran up and beat the frick out of him....then insinuate that he told the cop to frick off? What are you doing man?

Was the cop in uniform? If he was in street clothes, I'm out of this fricking thread.

In no way should a law abiding citizen have to stop for a cop. I don't give a shite was the law says at this time. We are constantly shitting on the constitution.

Did you miss the part where I said the cop was wrong?
I didn't say that the shopper told the cop to frick off, that was the words I put in your mouth as a hypothetical.
The truth is that you don't know any more than I do what was said in that incident.
However, in my opinion, once it was clear the cop wanted the guy to stop and then to get down, the guy clearly resisted. He was a fool for doing so. Help me understand why he made that choice.

Do cops go around and beat the frick out of people they suspect of murder? I'm fairly certain they work on solving the crime. The shite does this guy think it's ok for cops to break legs of those who they think might have stole a veggie?

Cops have very little accountability for their actions so it's no surprise that some are so openly belligerent and even defend each other.
None of the money will come out of the police department's budget or out of the officer's pocket. It will come out of budgets for infrastructure and cops will continue to not GAF.

You can't be serious.
Good Lord do we need basic citizenship training in this country! You really think that you can ignore a cop's orders to stop if he has reasonable suspicion?
Can you please show me this in your version of the constitution?
Seriously. Is there anyone else here who agrees with this statement? If so, the problem is worse than I thought.
