Terrain, speed and mechanical advantage of the individual bike.

All bikes are not created equal, some will make you work harder than others to cover the same course in the same amount of time.

Not sure, the farthest I've biked was close to 20 miles and I have a hard time running a mile non stop.

take a toll over distance independent of burning calories. Can you physically do the exercise, not if you've dieted correctly.

This has more to do with the stress on the joints.

Calorie wise, a mile of jogging is similar to a mile of walking. Biking takes 2-3 miles, but depends a lot on gear settings and such.

The biggest difference is heart rate elevation. You just can't really get the same effects walking on a flat surface at a leisurely pace as you can from running.

If you really want to get fancy you can read all about the differing energy stores activated in aerobic vs anaerobic exercise.

I have seen fatasses that can't walk up a flight of stairs be able to ride 15 miles on a bike. Biking is easy if you go slow.

No direct correlation.

I've ridden 100 miles on a bike many times. When I was at my fittest for biking, running just 2 or 3 miles beat the hell out of my legs because I was not a regular runner. If you want to run, you have to run. It impacts different muscles and in different ways.

I now walk 4 to 7 miles a day at 4 mph. I don't think that means I am ready to jog/run any distance. My fitness from walking would help, but it does not automatically mean I am ready to run any certain number of miles.

How much do you weigh/height/BMI?

A picture would be helpful.
