Imagine what a Waffle House security guard would look like
They should get local prison guards looking for a second income. They’d know half the customers already.

If they can get it, more power to them.

Sounds like all these people are underpaid. Bank tellers earn more..

If they can get that much, it probably won’t be for long.
If Waffle House is charging Whole Foods prices, not a lot of people will eat there. People may like Waffle House et all but they aren’t paying premium dining prices for it. At that point, you go someplace better if it isn’t 3am when the bars close.

Private citizens leveraging their labor for better working conditions from their private employer is doing a communism

Yeah, I don't think the folks in my local one deserve $25/hour.
Ate there Sat night at midnight, with my hot Pennsylvania blonde friend Heather (no pics). She got a little tipsy at the bar so wanted to sober her up a little.
Walked in, three workers there. Our hostess, Charlotte, was in her 70's, obviously a life long smoker. The night manager cook was a bald guy in his 50's. Victoria was the waitress / cook, bout the same age as the cook. They were slammed. Waited a long while for food. People would walk in and wait for a while then leave. Charlotte told us she gets off work at 2, but then has to be back at 6:30am as she agreed to an extra shift. Damn.
The other patrons were the best part. Lotsa piercings and tats. All shapes, sizes, and colors. Did have a large group of well-dressed young folks that looked like they all just came from church.
Heather had the Classic and I had the All Star with grits and the waffle ($11). Was fun.

That must explain why there's a nurse unionization effort underway at several Louisiana hospitals.

Negotiation 101: your initial ask should be for more than you think is fair.
I think I read that in the "Art of the Deal."

Are you saying Waffle House should cut their pay so more people can afford to eat there ?

Looking at pay rates I’d say they are underpaid. But 25 is too high, most make between 10-15/hr
I’d say 15-20 range is reasonable
If they get offered 20 and don't take it that's a mistake for sure.

What price should the government set at the maximum for restaurant labor?
Posted on 10/3/23 at 9:33 am to SpidermanTUba
I’m saying that restaurants are built on a formula of costs in order to have a menu that people will buy.
X% wages of employees (cooks, waitresses, etc)
Y% for food costs
Z% for building costs (utilities, rent, taxes, etc)
If one of those inputs goes way up, it threatens the prices on the menu. If the prices go up too much, people stop buying and they shut down.
Should wages be artificially depressed for sales? No. But artificially increasing them sure as frick will drive down sales, especially since inflation is already driving up the costs of food like eggs and beef.

I would be fine with none. I cook 90% of my own food.
Even when traveling I tend to do this.
I do all my own cooking too.
but it's a 14 hour drive between "home" and where I live for work.
explain how I'm supposed to cook during that drive.
should I split it into 2 days and get a hotel in the middle with a full kitchen?
