My cousin worked on it. It was crazy to tour the Boeing museum with him, because he was literally pointing out different items he helped engineer on multiple of the planes too.

To put that into perspective, that "close" encounter with another star is still about 65,000 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Or 1,300 times the distance from the Sun to the Kuiper Belt.
In that other thread about the galaxy cluster you could put your thumb over a few. The distance away for you to be able to put your thumb over a few Milky Ways is quite a bit.

Apparently I may be wrong too. I assumed most of those were listening/receivers.
Sounds like I was pretty darn close

Do you understand why things rust?
No, there is no rusting in the vacuum of space.

I always assumed they used transmitters and not satellite dishes to send signals.
They are parabolic dishes and will work in transmitting or receiving, they can gather RF energy from space and focus it on one point where it is sent to a receiver just like you home satellite TV dish, or RF energy from a transmitter can be applied to the same focal point and concentrated into a narrow beam that is sent into space, just like the reflector in a flashlight concentrates the light from the bulb into a beam.

Reading about it now. Always assumed they showed the dishes because they looked more impressive. Transmitters for the most part are pretty unassuming.
Kind of surprising how little power it actually takes to transmit the signal though.
Also got distracted for 30 minutes on the Russian Woodpecker because of the HAM thread

There were four Russian over the horizon radar sites (woodpecker), the other three were torn down and scrapped, the remaining antenna array still exists because it was only a few miles from Chernobyl, and was in the exclusion zone created by the radiation from the meltdown. the radar site was also powered by Chernobyl power station.

Yeah, for whatever reason it popped into my head.
Those Russians were harsh, but they got some amazing stuff done. Caspian Sea Monster is another that is cool to dive in to.

There are also those that believe drug cartels, ISIS, and other terror organizations who fear their email and phone communications may be easily compromised may be using numbers broadcasts.

Isn't there a YouTube station that publishes numbers videos every so often and people have linked to these theories

If interested there is a site dedicated to documentaries (bbc shows and such) called mvgroup. Google it, worth signing up and free. Search for Voyager, lots of good stuff.
