As you age, your body is less efficient when making vit d from sun exposure. I take 1000 units a day as a supplement. I've had one cold in 15 years and no COVID. It has other benefits too

D3 supplement (125% daily value)
There are many out there that are way too potent and that can cause issues as well.
That said, gotta get some sun to boost it. No way around that.

I had been taking Vit D3 on my own but he checked my level and it was low.I upped my dose, last checkup it was 50 and he was satisfied.
Did you feel any different physically? Like could you tell a difference overall?

If you're low they may prescribe something like a 50,000 IU dose, once per week, for a while, since D can be stored in the body, so they need to get your levels up.

I had mine tested a couple of months ago because I'd just been feeling dead tired over the past few months. It was a little above your levels. They put me on D2 and D3 supplements. It's helped.

I'd been battling fatigue for a very long time. NP recommended testing VitD levels and they were extremely low.
Same as others, I was put on a D3 supplement, once weekly. I could definitely feel a difference in my energy levels. I was taken off the RX and now just take OTC vitamin D daily. I can tell a difference in my energy if I don't take it for a week.

I take them as a supplement because I was at 9 ng/ml. I'm in the sun plenty but when I am I'm lathered in sunscreen or completely covered up because of skin cancer. Wearing extra clothes or sunscreen will prevent you from getting you vitamin D no matter how long you are in the sun.

“Did you feel any different physically?”
Not really, couldn’t tell much difference.I just started taking it after reading the benefits for the immune system. One difference I noticed was that I got a sinus infection every fall,I’m allergic to ragweed or goldenrod which would turn into a sinus infection.Haven’t had a sinus infection since.
However some other posters,Purpleand Gold and mmmmmbeer said it helped with their fatigue.
People say just get out in sun more.I talked to a guy that worked outside every day in construction. He was sure his D level would be good but it was low when he was tested.
Another old guy I know had Covid twice,I suggested he get his level checked. He was sure his was fine,he had cattle and was outside several hours every day. After he got Covid 3rd time he got his level checked and it was slightly above 0,Dr. put him on 50,000 U.every 2 weeks for 3 months.
Sad thing about that was he had to ask his Dr. to check his level,a good Dr. would have been on top of it,he shouldn’t have had to ask.

I take VD supplement because mine was low. It’s very common now that more people avoid sun exposure.

This is the truth. I'm in the sun a decent amount (walk 3-4 miles almost daily), and my level was still at 29 a few weeks ago. Doing 10k units per day for one month and then back to 10k per week.
29 is not off the charts low, but it's at the very edge of optimal. Had zero energy and feel much better already!
ETA: Just as an FYI, but low vitamin D levels are pretty often correlated with low testosterone. If you're feeling sluggish all of the time, it's wise to get both checked.

I'm at 31 ng/mL now but was at 16 ng/mL 5 years ago. Started with 2,000 IU of D3 daily for a few years but plateaued at 25-27. Bumped it up to 4,750 IU last year and finally made it to 31.

OP needs to get outdoors more.

I'd rather be outside anytime over being inside. Growing up, outside of school, I was outside more than in. With a lot of other neighborhood kids there was always something going on, even in the summer when it was hot as hell.. Everyone was outside. Then it seems like when you start working.. If you are in an office, after awhile that shite makes you weaker.
That's when I started having issues that turned out were related to low vitamin D.
And thats part of the reason people can't handle the heat. People are in offices where its kept cool. I still think we were not designed to be in an office all day.

Yes I was 21 for years. Took a D3 pill. Didn't do shite.
Read to take the D3/K2 combo. Now I'm at 42.

(probably because it's expensive and insurance companies won't pay).
Use vitamin D deficiency as the diagnosis and they'll cover it. It's about $250 which is bullshite considering how often it's ordered now.
We have an alarming about of vitamin D deficiency. Any doctor not checking pt's is ignorant or in a managed care program where the less they spend, the more they can make.
Mine was 9.2 in 2020, just before COVID. I'm outside year round and get plenty in my diet. They've done something to us or the food or both to see how deficient people are. This just started in the last 8-9 years or so.
