but as others have said, that ceases to matter within a year of graduating.
I mean, not really. Good luck getting a job at Goldman Sachs or Blackrock or something with a state school degree.

Yep, you might actually have to accomplish something on your own and build up your resume beyond the "Education" section.

I can't speak specifically to the financial sector, but in engineering you stand on your own reputation and abilities. It may be easier to get your foot in the door with a degree from a big name university, but if you do mediocre work, you'll never go anywhere. No one gives a shite where you went to school, they only care if you're good at what you do.

Yeah, because everyone is trying to get a job with those companies.

I was hired by the 3rd largest environmental consulting company in the world...in their Baton Rouge office...with 2 degrees from McNeese.

And it had nothing to do with the degrees and everything to do with knowledge and experience in my field.

Degrees mean nothing without the work ethic and experience behind them. Anyone that argues otherwise is living in a fantasy land. Anyone that bases their hiring on whether they recognize the name of a school is a mediocre manager, and not at all concerned with finding the best talent.

They just renovated most of the buildings on ULL's campus. This is a lame troll thread.

Bingo. With the exception of the conference center which is basically a shithole. dude probably went in the conference center, which admittedly sucks and then ran here to Troll.

I'm an alum, but even if the buildings were brand new, they'd still be ugly as shite. All the featureless, dreary red brick architecture is horrible.

But, in our defense, they were built at a time when that style was going up all over the country. I've heard it called "Moscow Modern."

Not the point. A degree from any Lousiana State School confers a zero percent chance at a job like that. That was the crux of his argument. Doesn't matter how hard you work or your past work history. You would have a ZERO percent chance.

On “managerial”, son, I’m a goddamn rockstar in the engineering world......with all three of my silly LSU degrees.

You've posted on here recently about your job, and if you consider that "rockstar" material...that's just depressing

And like I said, that shite only matters if you want a job with that company, and then you aren't going to go to a school in Louisiana anyway. So trying to use that as an argument for why degrees at any Louisiana school sucks is asinine.

Is that so hard to understand?

BTW: LSU Economics senior accepts job with GS.

Oh and guess what? She got the job because of participation in a program at LSU and work experience gained through an internship at GS.

To say it's impossible from ANY Louisiana school is foolish. To say it's nearly impossible from McNeese, ULL, Southeastern, etc.? I'll agree with that.

this, pretty much.

Obviously where you go to school isn't the end all be all, but let's stop acting like it's unimportant

ULM or ULL? You need to list the entire official acronym if you expect us to know what school you're specifically referring to.

1995 Louisiana Legislature Act 45, Section 3, Part D: All uses of the name "University of Louisiana" must be followed by the word "at" and the institution's geographical location.

Some of the architecture at LSU is mind blowing. It makes me question their leadership. Mostly new buildings. It's like people were smarter 60 years ago.

That's the one that I had in mind. Wtf were they thinking? LSU has one of the most unique and beautiful campuses but yeah let's try to get modern.

The 60s and 70s took a giant shite on architecture. LSU's campus had the Italian style with tile roofs, UL had the Collegiate Georgian style with red brick and collums. Then the 60s shite out these huge square concrete eyesores with no character.

At least in most cases, they've gone back to building in line with the original styling of campus buildings.

I love it, the 70's probably shite on a lot of campuses but LSU is still fricking up. I like the consistency that Bama and Ole Miss has had.

pure bullshite.

You're telling that you think if someone started their own hedgefund, managed a few billion dollars and made obscene money for all of their clients, that person couldn't potentially land a job at a Goldman Sachs?

You must think the people who run these companies are complete imbeciles.
