I'd sure like a pic of Bogalusa if you ever fly over. And I'm being serious.

Radios go to crap too?
Yep. Pretty much straight static for a solid 30 seconds or so.

I was in this fricker as a passenger in 1988. No one killed. I had a run of bad luck during that time - aborted takeoffs, hailstorms, engine failures. I finally stop flying and did so for about ten years LOL
So, you stopped flying? Is that around the time when you began train hopping across the country?

If you're talking long distances, like ATL to Japan, drawing a straight line on a flat map looks a lot different than flying the actual shortest distance across the earth. Last time I planned, it took us thru Minnesota & Alaska, which seems odd on a flat map.
Yeah, when I flew Chicago to Stockholm we went NNE over Canada, Greenland, the Norewgian Sea, and then into Stockholm from mostly the north instead of west.

Looks like a glare reflection in the windscreen from something inside.

That's always been my experience.

bros, do y’all even static discharge?

Seeing those have made me realize I need to get back to flying again. I'm going to have to schedule some time with a CFI to shake off the rust since it's been a while.

I'm usually so slow, that it's hard to believe I develop static at all.

I can’t remember who was asking about flying to Asia lately but here’s our route to and from Japan in Dec. To Japan (and anywhere in the east, especially China) it’s a bit longer than our pre-Ukraine war route since we can’t fly over Russia and down but on the return to the US it’s not much different. The return route I posted here was very southerly to take advantage of winds. (We were doing 720kts ground speed or 828 mph, uncorrected)
We're equipped for polar routes but due to the conflict (and Covid. Haven’t flown from the states to China since) we haven’t used them.

This thread is so bittersweet for me. All I ever wanted to be was a professional pilot. When I was 17 I developed atrial fibrillation and even though it’s well controlled through medicine, I was told by the flight school at La Tech it was a losing battle for me to try and be an airline pilot. I chose a different career instead. I still have the bug to fly and am sitting here at 43 wondering what it would take to give it another shot or if the medical standards have changed.
