I was in the lobby of Suttle Hall at MSU. It was packed with maybe 200 guys eating pizza, burgers and all that stuff. There was a lot of noise and happiness and then they started drawing. Someone there had #1 and it got really serious. They drew my number about five minutes later.

All in all a bad night, but I am still here.

What do you mean, why? If I was born a day earlier I wouldn’t have been drafted.

Think I would rather take my chances at home instead of some jungle overseas.

I guess what I meant was that it's a lottery, a crap shoot, no control over it, glad you didn't have to go

Much respect sir, my late father signed up in 1964 , Navy and flew recon over the jungle taking pictures to help map out the jungle. He never considered himself a veteran because so many of you guys were in hell and he was on a base in Japan.

After he passed away the VFW gace us paper showing his achievements. Come to find out he was doing vital survailance missions for the safety of you guys on the ground. Humble to the core, he felt so bad about you guys he never boasted to his sons about his accomplishments.

Pretty cool, rant. My dad graduated HS in '65 and was in the Army in '66, I think. He was a medic but never saw time in Vietnam. He was stationed in Germany. He was in the Seventh Army, Seven steps to Hell if I recall correctly.
