The problem is that the term "racism" is used to mean different things. It is supposed to have a narrow definition but it quite clearly is used so broadly that to compare the racism of, for example, the most fanatically ignorant modern day Klansmen with that of a person who makes a snide "culture" remark after watching a video of inner city blacks encouraging child violence is a completely normal application of the term. This effectively makes it worthless because it has no specificity and equates very unlike things based simply on whether there is a racial component present at all.
Insofar as "racism" is used to reflect sectarianism, it will never be eliminated. Sectarianism has and will always exist within humans. It exists in humans within the same general ethnic groups. It exists religiously and regionally. Blacks are as sectarian as whites. And sectarianism needn't always be viewed as some horrible or despicable thing. It is innate, so what distinguishes it morally is whether and to what extent it is used in policy and practice against others.
I live in south Louisiana and I can tell you that I don't know a single person who universally views people of a particular race to be inferior or worthy of poor treatment on account of their race alone. To suggest that the "racism" displayed by the modern day Klan is anything more than an outlier is simply something that I think conflates unlike things due to poor terminology and a lack of critical thinking.

Not true at all. Racism doesn't have to be taught. Life events can be the genesis of racism. Doesn't even have to be a traumatic event perpatrated by the other race.
