I'm not one to downplay the situation with coronavirus right now BUT that professor kinda sounds like he's trying to make something out of that situation. He even calls himself a whistle blower.

10 days ago (at least) my wife's crazy liberal business partner sent word that he was staying home from work because one of his children was exhibiting "corona-like symptoms". Mind you, this was before anything significant had be found in the US, let alone Louisiana. Yet, we have a significant faction of today's population that finds being a "victim" heroic and desperately seeks such attention

That student was not honest with either the professor or with whomever he was on the phone with. Either way, the student is full of shite one way or the other. I think the professor has a right to act pissed off and concerned. I think the whistleblower comment was the only thing that was too far.
