I just retired after 24 years in the Army. When I did my VA physical these were the two people in front of me:

First was a mid-20's female easy 200 lbs grossly overweight. Probably being chaptered for failing to meet fitness standards.

Second was a early 20's commo soldier with no deployments who asked for a chaperone for his physical. Enough said.

I do. A scam artist is a scam artist. Pilots making $250-$400k per year should not be banking on huge disability benefits.

Fine, then change the policy and the law. A scam artist? Hardly. A scam artist takes something that doesn't belong to them. That pilot gave 20 years of his life doing things in places so others wouldn't have to. Some of them pulled 8 times their weight in that cockpit while taking pills to keep them awake which has led to more sleepless nights than you can imagine. Spine collapsed with fused vertebrae while wearing a 70lb parachute with the knowledge that if all hell breaks lose, he's going to die and have his body dragged through the streets by assholes or even worse become a POW and have worse shite happen. Anniversaries, birthdays, births, funerals all missed while off in some shithole that politicians sent them to. That guy might have a mortgage for one house that he hasn't seen in years thanks to a Jody stiffing his wife while in said place.

You don't want him to get disability, then quit bitching on a forum and write your congressman about how you think vets get too much. Doubt you get very far, but hey, who knows. Take away some benefits and then wonder why the draft will have to come back the next time we get a 20 year war and no one is signing up to go serve.

The VA has become a form of welfare for a lot of folks. Sadly, as a veteran and someone who works a lot with folks trying to get a claim in the VA it's not about need it's seen as a right. You can get agent orange exposure pay for changing planes in Saigon in 1972. I know 100% "disabled" who work full time and will have 3 retirements. I've been coaxed myself by many of these grifters multiple times to file a claim. I always tell them, I'm not disable. Their response, it's not about being disabled it's about getting that money.

Just because you are veteran doesn't make you a good or ethical person.

The idea is that when you serve you are now owed for life. Honestly, it pisses me off as these folks are taking money for shite they don't actually deserve and when it goes tits up and we are broke as a nation it will be seen as taking from veterans who actually need it.

I pay more in taxes than 99% of the population. If taking a VA disability check makes me a welfare queen, so be it.

Unfortunately there are a ton of vets who simply game the system. During the OIF years when we were deployed non-stop and they couldn't make retention numbers it got easier to get VA disability and now all sorts of pieces of shite abuse it. The sad part is there are a lot of people who deserve it who don't take it because they don't want to be lumped in with the 20 something POG with a "deployment" to Kuwait who got 100% for claiming anxiety and a bunch of unprovable shite.

This is an undeniable fact, but there are a lot of posters on this thread who refuse to acknowledge that and act like if you point it out you are SHITTING ON VETS. Personally I think it's a real "thou doth protest too much" situation going on here in a lot of these cases.

My favorite is how they keep bringing up cases where someone was actually physically disabled as proof that ALL cases are legit. Yeah retards, obviously there are a lot of actual disabled vets out there who need the disability money to help them. We aren't talking about them.

Yeah and I bet you also complain about the freeloaders and their sense of entitlement while completely missing the irony.

What I’ve gathered from this thread is that the disability money isn’t to “help” them it is to compensate them for the injuries they sustained, since they can’t see such compensation thru the court system like civilians would who sustain OTJ injuries.

You're not very intelligent, huh? Freeloaders who don't contribute to society and pick up a free check (whether from the VA or from SSI/SSDI) are freeloaders.

I work my dick off and pay wayyyyy more into the system than I will ever receive.

So what! You are excusing grifting on the federal teat by claiming you pay too much in taxes, is like saying you shoplift because you always drive the speed limit. Seek to lower your tax bill not grift like some welfare queen off the VA

How much do you pay in taxes a year, my friend? If I'm grifting by paying a couple hundred thousand in taxes a year and only getting a $1,700/mo check from the VA, then I'm one dumbass grifter.

Like someone not disabled taking taxpayer money set aside for the disabled?

That pilot (unless in Vietnam) chose to do that and that doesn’t automatically make them disabled

So you made big money. Congrats. Taxes have nothing to do with whether or not it's ethical to grift off the VA
