Crooks huh? A job with one of the highest suicide rates and lowest ROI when it comes to schooling.

I swear some of y’all have some serious issues.

You definitely have to shop around and find a vet you trust and is reasonable.

Our Aussie ran into a truck once in the late 90s. She was chasing a squirrel and literally ran into the side of a passing truck. I took her to the vet to make sure she wasn't hurt. The vet, a young vet, said she had a heart murmur and left for a few minutes. She came back with a printout of their recommendations and the cost. They wanted to run several tests for a little over $500. Otherwise, the dog was fine. I told her I needed to think about that.

I called a family friend who was a vet and told him. He lived near my inlaws and told me to bring the dog the next time we came up (which was in two weeks). He also said to bring the printout. He checked the dog and said she might have a heart murmur, but if so, it was very faint -- and what were they planning on doing about it anyway?

He then went on a long rant about modern day vets (he was nearing retirement then) being taught to perform unnecessary tests and procedures just to make more money. My FiL, a retired large animal vet, agreed.

The dog lived a long, active life, and we found another vet.

$400 annual and $105/mo for "special" dog food. One of the great rip offs going right now. No wonder people are dropping their pets off in record numbers at the shelters

I just took my dog to the vet. She explained that we could do $220 worth of tests to confirm if she had pancreatitis or she could just treat her as if she knew for sure.

I paid a little over $100 and my pup is all fixed up. I think most vets are in it to help.

That’s all bullshite. I’ve done hundreds of dentals. Don’t need lab work. Don’t need monitoring. Don’t need all the drugs listed. 20 years ago we charged $45.

Dont need monitoring?

Yeah we also used to drill into peoples skulls to release demons and bloodletting was a thing. Human medicine can evolve but veterinarian medicine cant?

I also know a vet who didn't monitor his patients during surgeries and dentals or do bloodwork. And guess what, he would have patients crash a die on the table not knowing why.

And if a veterinarian did any of that these days and the state board found out you'd have your license stripped in a second.

Want to bet? What would you say if I told you they don’t even run that shite on humans before surgery? Would you believe me if I told you it was a money grab and if you push your vet on why he’s doing it he/she couldn’t really give you an answer?

Is mine the only vet that tries to make you buy everything under the sun?

I go to get my dog's vaccine updated last time, and next thing I know I'm spending $700-$800 on heartworm stuff.

No I wouldn’t. Because I actually own a vet practice and know what I’m talking about.
