Cliff's version
Two LNG liquefaction plants and export terminals in Plaquemines Parish, it withdrew application of one of them to concentrate on expanding the first one.

IMO, the market is nearing saturation point. Afterall, China shutdown a major refinery for good. Global population decline is real and so are the markets to supply it.

Not even close, what do you think is going to power all of these data centers coming online?

They withdrew the application because they can do the expansion at the current site faster than building a new site. Makes sense considering they will get a quicker return on their investment. Delta, a stand alone site, will come years later.

You think that a data center will be built where it costs more to power than where it the cost is a fraction to fuel?

Nuclear. That’s why those data centers are moving next to nuke plants.

Tech companies like Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon and Google are hiring nuclear scientists to help build and maintain SMRs to power their datacenters.

Smaller gas turbines as well. If anyone doubts this take a look at GE Vernova stock since last summer

Which will be supplied by the very abundant shale NG we have. Contracts are already being put in place directly with some Haynesville operators.

This. As part of the FERC Certificate process you must undergo a pretty robust alternatives analysis and in that you have to asses whether expansion at an existing facility could meet the purpose and need for the proposed facility. With Delta being located so close to Plaquemines its unlikely the alternative analysis conclusion could have justified a completely new facility.

Nuclear is not powering the handful of data centers recently announced in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Entergy is trying to build 2 new gas-powered generation plants for Meta in North LA and is not really investing in Nuclear right now.

The cliff notes should read: VG is expanding their existing facility (PLNG) because it’s cheaper, faster and easier to expand than build a whole new facility and have to do the dance with FERC again.

True but expansion is for 18 MTPA as opposed to 24 MTPA and similar permitting is required

While the amount is true, permitting is very different since PLNG already has FERC, air permits, corps permits, etc approval and it’s just an amendment to their previous approval.

Since CP2 took 2 years longer than anticipated to get approval to go to the field, it’s a lot easier to amendment then whole new site
