Wife wants to take a vacation out there before the end of the year. Who here has spent time out that way. Was thinking about flying in and staying in Vegas, renting a car and going different places for a week. Suggestions?

Didn't do GC, but hit up Zion/Bryce Canyon in UT and enjoyed. Very scenic there as well. Vegas is a pretty good base to fly on

Zion is awesome. Take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon.

I've done this many times.
Go the south route once to tour Hoover Dam and see the South Rim. The rest go via Zion to see, well, Zion plus the North Rim and Bryce.
Just outside the Zion east entrance there's a private campsite that is $20/night for a spot with showers and laundry.

Just pay for the Canyon Tour before you start gambling.

Zion is definitely a must but Death Valley at that time of year isn't bad either.

This. I lived in Vegas for a year but rarely went to the strip. You can also drive to GC for an overnight stay on site and do the same for Zion. Fall is best time because it's cooler but it will snow in both parks so don't wait too late. Have a great trip!

Never understood why people go to Vegas and waste a day at the Grand Canyon and Hoover. I would skip Hoover Dam, it's not worth spending a lot of time there. Grand Canyon is worth it but it will take up most of your day getting there and back. There's so much to do without leaving the strip, including old Vegas.

Head out to Moappa Valley and Red Rock Canyon. Mt. Charleston is beautiful this time of year as well.

went to gc. was a wasted day. just look at it when you're flying over.

If you have the time, a great trip that I've done before is fly out to Phoenix and drive to Vegas. Stop in Sedona along the way and spend a night or two there(surprise her with a B&B). Lot's to see and do. Make your way to the Canyon for a couple nights then work your way to Vegas. Take headlights. The desert comes alive at night. A nice detour if you have time for some other sights is Painted Desert and Meteor Crater.

I did it and had a blast. One suggestion though. Go to the Grand Canyon first. It's too tempting to jump in if you go to Vegas first.

Most people prefer the Grand Canyon and Hoover over Vegas. I liked Vegas for a couple of days (strip clubs, gambling, cirque, restaurants) but I find it gets old pretty fast. Hoover Dam is an engineering marvel and the Grand Canyon is awesome as well. I would absolutely suggest doing those two as well as lake powell
