The grading scale is all wonky now where if you take honors or AP courses they score higher than a 4.0. Good for her.
At my kids school they add 10 points for AP (make a 95, it’s a 105). All this gets stripped out by colleges who have their own way of calculating it to make apples to apples comparison. Many do add points for AP and dual enrollment (True A in an AP counts as a 5, on a 4.0 scale)

My boy struggles to keep a 3.0…and he’s in the less rigorous class grouping of the two in his grade.
Lol.
Lol.

Not kidding, if I could find the graduation announcement pamphlet and take a screen shot I would. I was in shock when I saw. The other youngster had a class of around 375 students and there were 58 valedictorians in her class.

my daughter was valedictorian of her graduating class, there was a big competition among the top few, they really get carried away with weighted classes and grade inflation
Most amazing to me is the lack of males among top grads. Last 3 years at my sons HS, only 1 male each year among the top 10 grads.

The pressure on kids is crazy. My son will be a senior this year. He took 4 APs as Junior (Calculus, English, Bio, American History) and is taking 4 next year. His lowest grade this year was a 97 in Caluclus (includes 10 points added because AP). His overall HS GPA on a 100 point scale is 98.7.
I’m having to have conversations with him about how he might be denied admission to many of his top choices..you see he didn’t take 6 APs this year because he enjoys Agriculture and Weight Lifting so took those and is doing same next year. This puts him in a less competitive position for top schools but even for UGA…he will finish HS with 9 AP classes, but could’ve taken a max of 13 offered.

One of my proudest accomplishments was getting the highest grade in a geography class in college beating out a dotted Indian chick while missing 50% of classes.

We were at UGA on a football recruiting visit last week and I asked about entry requirements for incoming players. The analyst said the average incoming ACT was ~34 for freshmen…but for football players it was 21…and all they really needed was “a score”.
34 though, that right?

I stand corrected, were only 72 in 2014.
Sankey isn't exaggerating when she talks about academic accomplishments; 20 are National Merit Scholar Semifinalists, eight were named Presidential Scholar candidates, six received perfect ACT scores and 72 will be valedictorians at graduation.

Anyone know or understand the keyboard she's using?
If she wants to cure sickle cell, why say you want to be a surgeon? Or has she already learned the art of sound bites without meaning?

UGA Calculated Grade Point Average mid-range/average: 4.06 – 4.33, with a 4.19 average
AP/IB/Dual Enrollment course mid-range/average: 8-13 courses, average of 10+
SAT Total mid-range for students: 1270-1470
ACT Composite mid-range for students: 29-34
This is for admitted Freshman 2023.

That’s pretty serious…likely on par with Florida…where we are now.
UGA facilities are just insane…excited to see what UF is working with.

At least she maybe able to actually help people some day when she becomes a surgeon.
Based on the “health disparities” comment she probably won’t.
