Utah about to legalize medical marijuana

t first, the debate over medical marijuana in Utah played out as you might expect: The Republican governor declared the issue shouldn’t be on the ballot. Once it was, the state medical association steered the opposition. By August, a senior official in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was warning that residents of some states that had legalized marijuana were seeing serious “health and safety consequences.”
quote:
But, then, something curious happened: Key opponents negotiated an agreement with the measure’s backers and other state leaders. Now, no matter what happens on Election Day, state lawmakers will be called into a special legislative session and plan to enact an alternate medical marijuana program. Unless the pact falls apart, Utah, one of the most conservative states in the country, will join the more than 30 other states that have already sanctioned some form of medical marijuana
quote:
There remains plenty of opposition to ballot measures over medical marijuana in some quarters, including from the American Medical Association. But 22 years after California started the country’s first state-backed dispensaries, calls to make medical marijuana available to patients struggling with pain, anxiety, and other conditions have become more politically potent than ever, even in states once resistant to the idea.

Wake me up when Louisiana legalizes recreational.
... of course I'd probably need to go into cryogenic sleep.

Too much money to be made. Once your border states are making money off your citizens your state is going to want a piece of the action.

That's exactly what is going to happen.

Within five years. Trump Administration will legalize at the Federal level after midterms.

Weird. Drug companies and physicians recognize anxiety.
Or are they prescribing Xanax, klionopin, Valium, libreum and Ativan for kicks?

Would be huge. The fact that the feds still have it categorized as a Schedule I CDS is mind boggling.

This has been rumored, I would LOVE to see him blast a grand slam with this issue.

Nevada is legal.
Colorado is legal.
Arizona has medical.
It's only a matter of time before Utah gets it. Now if they can just get those crazy alcohol laws fixed.....

I’m ok with that
As long as roids are legalized

EDIT: I guess this is kind of like the 10% tax cut on the middle class that Trump claims the legislature is working on for after the midterms, despite the fact that legislature is not in session. Or the opiate bill that Trump claims was passed despite a lack of Democrat support, even though the only person in the Senate to vote against it was a Republican. Or the blatantly unconstitutional promises about birthright citizenship. Just gotta throw out any lie you can and hope it sticks.
Take a look at Republican demographics and their majority stance on marijuana and see how ridiculous of an assertion this is. You people are loony tunes.

Utah Governor Herbert was recorded at a GOP donors gathering saying he was ready, willing and able to be bought:
quote:
"However we want to do this — if we want to have multiple meetings or we sit down and talk and you give us a check later or before. However you would like to do it," Herbert said in the meeting, after one lobbyist questioned the appropriateness of discussing policy issues at the same time checks are handed over. "I'll just say, I'm available. I'm Available Jones."
"Available Jones" is apparently a reference to a character from the old-time comic strip Li'l Abner, a hillbilly from the town of Dogpatch who was always looking to make a buck and was available for a price.
