UT stepped up today and did the right thing.

In a statement

quote:

In recognition of the fourth-grader’s Volunteer spirit, the university has extended an offer of honorary admission for him to join the Class of 2032. In addition, he has been awarded a four-year scholarship covering his tuition and fees beginning fall 2028 should he decide to attend UT and meet admission requirements.

quote:

So far, more than 50,000 shirts featuring the boy’s design have been pre-sold by the VolShop. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go directly to the charity Stomp Out Bullying. The university will cover the cost of the scholarship separately.

Would not offering a scholarship for 9 years from now have been the wrong thing? It's a nice story but "the right thing" is a strange way of looking at it

You're just mad because Tennessee offered the kid before Georgia did.

It’s sad the kid got bullied, but now they are rewarding for being bullied?

I guess it’s kinda smart for bad football schools to just give up and go the social justice route.

Those parents are pretty slick. I doubt he makes it to college age before this whole thing is exposed as a hoax though. But hey, I gotta give them credit for thinking outside the box.

I'm gonna be that guy and say I'm not buying this whole story. Seems to me it's more highly plausible that a kid was being a kid made a u.t. doodle just being silly as kids are, he pinned it to his shirt. U.T. sees it and runs with it as a p.r. scheme. Tennessee fan kid gets bullied in Alabama for being a ut fan and they just give him a scholarship? That's a bit of a stretch. I would imagine far more deserving people were turned down for academic aide who followed the process in place.

UT is milking this story for all it's worth to hide their shitshow of a program. Still happy for the kid.

Apparently kids making fun of a kid for literally taping a piece of notebook paper to his shirt is now considered "bullying."

Well Tennessee didn’t do anything to the kid so I’m not sure how it’s “the right thing.”

Nice gesture for sure though, but you worded that weird.

They compensated the kid for his design. They sold 50,000 shirts....paying the kid for his design seems like the right thing to do.

Or "UT sucks". It's what rival fans do.

I hope I’m reading the tone of this comment as sarcasm and not bullying.
