Well, I'm speaking from experience. This fatigue policy has nothing to do with safety. If that was the case this fatigue policy would be included for all employees!! The fatigue policy does not affect salary personal because it will affect their bonus payout program!!! Our facility is non Union, but I hope they make a big Union push over here. I've been here for 20+ Years and we've always been told we get paid slightly more than other local refiners to keep the union out, turns out were like 8th or 9th place. IF YOU APPLY FOR A JOB FOR MARATHON you WILL NOT get insurance after you retire, they cut that out like 6 years ago!! Plus they changed our retirement plan...I've been here for awhile and I'm loosing 275k just in my retirement, so you can imagine how much less a new hire will get in his/her retirement plan!!

Why was the fatigue policy put in place?

Until you can correctly answer, you lose credibility.

Hint. ** similar to Cool story bro

Wise to max early.

Quite frankly, what does the company owe you. A safe work place and decent wage for working in a hazardous environment.
We arent entitled to anything else. The company that provides the most will get the best workers.

And fwiw, i do not get a bonus

It was proposed long before BP Texas City, but that is what got it passed.

Poor engineering and procedures were exposed by human error which was blamed on fatigue.

No doubt. That is true union or not.

Shitty contracts will cause defections as well. Trust me, I was one of them.

Pretty sure the CSB ripped all sorts of arse on that one all the way to the top
Not just blaming fatigue. But it was a noted cultural problem.

But safety drove that. Not cutting dollars

Safety still drives it, but need and timing are manipulated to save dollars.

And that is your right and choice to leave a company. Nothin wrong with that

But this whole standstill that has people gutting their bank accounts and retirements is about money. Period

And alot will lose more than they would ever make over OT pay for hrs that arent OT hrs.

I've got no problem with a fatigue policy for safety, but make it fair and include your salary people too!!! They are the ones that make the important decisions supposedly. Since our expansion, a lot of young people took salary over the senior people who out time in building this refinery, that's so they can groom them and brain wash them to there way of thinking. So you have a 25 year old telling and 50 year old to go climb in a rack and close a valve or wash down your unit. all I can saw to my fellow employees is to stick together so they can stop taking away what we used to have. the salary bonus plan was changed lst year and they are giving a minimum of 25k in bonuses to salary guys every year.

Why do you feel entitled to your employer paying for your insurance after you retire?

Sounds like you are jealous of the "Salaried young people".

Not jealous at all diesel, if you think it's fair to work for a place and have things constantly taking away, then don't complain when the government wants to take your guns. As far as insurance, heck yea I feel I deserve this after I retire, if you think you don't deserve nothing, you should expect more for yourself.

Plant I go to, they all work straight through turnarounds. I'm talking 30-40+ days straight. The operators were given the option towards the end on taking a fatigue day, and I would say less than 10% took off.

Entitled, unionized plant worker? Shocking. Go work somewhere else if you don't like it.

A Company paying for my insurance after I retire is in no way comparable to the government taking away the right to own a firearm.

Granted I am one of the young salaried engineers you don't seem to care for so I doubt you or I will ever feel the same about entitlement.
