Wreckage from the USS Lexington was discovered by the expedition crew of Research Vessel (R/V) Petrel on March 4. The Lexington was found 3,000 meters (about two miles) below the surface, resting on the floor of the Coral Sea more than 500 miles off the eastern coast of Australia.

During the Battle of the Coral Sea the Japanese navy sank USS Lexington (CV-2), USS Sims (DD-409), and USS Neosho (AO-23), and damaged the USS Yorktown. The Japanese lost one light carrier (Shoho) and suffered significant damage to a fleet carrier (Shokaku).

Those finds are truly amazing.

I'm also excited about the last slave ship that was found in Mobile and what it had on it.

My dad was one of the original investors in the Atocha ship that went down but before their expedition to find it, he pulled his money back out of the project....

There are legitimate reasons so many WW2 vets had nightmares and hatred towards Japanese soldiers...look how much damage they did just in this one engagement.

The limited video shows how well preserved she is, the metal is incredible for being underwater for 76 years.

The Battle of Coral Sea took place in 1942. Kamikazes were not introduced yet

Actually do tell them, because that was a worthless fricking major.

Abandoned ship, it stayed afloat so a salvage crew reboarded. At which point aviation gas fumes ignited so they scuttled her
