Are you saying it's the menthol or what? Seems like you'd want a replacement at least more enjoyable tasting than the item you're replacing.

It gives you a sensation that’s noticeable, so the trick is to train your brain to let that sensation be enough to satisfy the craving. Over time if you get a craving you’ll reach for a cough drop instead of a drink or a cig and then it becomes natural.

I quit smoking after 19 years, by just quitting

Alcohol has been way harder. 3 weeks sober right now.

the nicotine isn’t even the addictive part anymore, it’s the literal oral fixation I can’t kick

I hear ya, sometimes I fall asleep with a cough drop in my lip, I’ll leave it on the night stand and then pop it in first thing in the morning.

I’ve decided to quit drinking too. It’s not that I was drinking all the time, in fact I’ve mostly limited drinking to social situations the last year or so, but when I did drink I could never just keep it to one or two, and I’d keep waking up with a headache and depression. At age 35 with a kid, the “fun” just isn’t worth it.

I quit cold turkey in 2020. I remember wanting to rip the gums out of my mouth for the first month or so for this exact reason. It was tough but it was well worth it.

good on you, that’s encouraging. I’m already dreading that feeling after a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I’m tapering off right now and will try to stick to a schedule in a couple weeks. a couple buddies of mine have tried that smokey mountain stuff and said they’d have rather gone cold turkey. I’ve even heard/read of some guys just using a wadded up paper towel for a few days. I’m one of the lucky ones in that I’ve been doing this for going on 15 years now and still haven’t had a cavity, but I can feel my gums receding and it freaks me the frick out

Congrats OP.

You can also substitute with Big Red chewing gum.

Big flavor. So much so it can ruin the taste of everything else. Especially if you pop a couple.

Edit:

I used it to help me study and take tests. You chew gum while studying. You get hung up taking the test on remembering something chew th gum. The olfactory nerves are tied pretty close to.memory and will help you recall what you were reading/doing while chewing it.

Can y’all tell me what in the feck Zyn is?

I quit drinking years ago. It’s lame. I swapped Camels for Cohibas.

Is Zyn a drug? Exercise routine?

I hope it’s a drug.

This is a great idea.

I’ve also heard that when you’re ready to quit the cough drops, you should try meth.

Ehhh, whoever told you that is full of it, bro.

You’re just gonna end up right back on cough drops. And not your daughter’s Ludens either.

Dude, this bag was full before dinner last night. And now, Walgreens is freaking closed. So, my only alternative is to break in to somebody’s medicine cabinet that lives within walking distance of my house and just pray they’re flush with that Swiss alpine herb.

You don’t want no part of this shite Ash.

It takes a convenient Walgreens location during normal business hours and a few dollars. Or an old lady’s medicine cabinet within walking distance of your house.

Go ‘head. Drive on cough drops.

Don’t say we didn’t warn ya. And, I don’t want to get any damn collect calls from OPP or EBRPP saying you need a ride and that you’re being released on your own recognizance at 2 in the morning. Some of us have responsibilities.

Best advice is spend a night in the tank so you can wake up and reflect on what you’re doing with your life.

Sure, you can hit Walgreens again in the morning. But, instead of taking more, maybe when you feel like its not working, go a day or two without it then take it. That's a better way to manage it and get another bag each month and build up a supply with the ones for the days you don’t take them.

Roll with this answer chief coming from an ex C drop addict did it one time for 5 years ya feel me took everything I loved and owned. That really not that high considering the length of time I was on the C drops cause you do build a tolerance. But my advice is tell him take a break for a few days like lay low one weekend take one on Friday and none on sat and Sunday and maybe one on Monday. It takes 72 hours for it to clear your system but if you can flush it out to lower your tolerance you will be better off and ya needs to stick to that. Otherwise you ain’t ever gonna chase that dragon once ya caught.

I may have to try that. Perfect timing too. My sinuses have been nuts for the last few days and I haven't even been wanting to smoke. I have because, addiction, but maybe just maybe this will help. Knowing my luck, I'm going to wake up tomorrow and my sinuses are going to be fine.

I wouldn’t go near cough drops these days, many are laced with Fentanyl just like Halloween candy
