One I heard years ago along these same lines:

When you're on I-10 at the TX/NM border, you're closer to the end of I-10 in Santa Monica than you are to where I-10 crosses the TX/LA border.

When you're on I-10 at the TX/LA border, you're closer to the end of I-10 in Jacksonville than you are to where I-10 crosses the TX/NM border.

Reminds me of one of my favorites... We are closer in time to the T-Rex than the T-Rex was to the stegosaurus.

Why would you not include the Chandeleur Islands. La Department of Wildlife sure as hell considers that Louisiana (lol). $100+ a year for us out of state anglers to fish at Freemason and Curlew.

Its about 35 miles from Chandeleur to Dauphin Island.

This is correct. OP is incorrect. Love threads like these though, so thanks OP.

eta: apologies OP-I see that you said "mainland."

The Diomede Islands are located in the middle of the Bering Strait between mainland Alaska and Siberia. If marginal seas are considered, then they are the northernmost islands within the entire Pacific Ocean. The 2 islands are 2.4 miles apart (3.8 km). Because they are separated by the International Date Line, Big Diomede is almost a day ahead of Little Diomede, but not completely; due to locally defined time zones, Big Diomede is only 21 hours ahead of Little Diomede (20 in summer). Because of this, the islands are sometimes called Tomorrow Island (Big Diomede) and Yesterday Island (Little Diomede).

it surprised me how close OK is to NW Louisiana when we went on a family vacation once. we stopped in Bossier City for a quick bite, then realized we only had another 3 hours to Broken Bow, OK. just figured it to be much further.

But he's a-heading west from the Cumberland gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

but Johnson City is east of the Cumberland Gap
