Ahhh I see now. The ole “I moved out of a small town while all my old friends are still working the oil field so I’m better than them. And to prove to myself I’m better than them I’ll call them small minded because I made a gay friend in the big city of Houston”

Is it disrespecting the actual office that bothers you or are you bothered because you support who is currently in that office?

Would you like to meet at Sonic and discuss it ?

We need to be teaching our children to respect the office !!!!!!!!!!

Thing is, my bubble is MUCH larger.

But, there in lies the break. Large metro areas have always been left-leaning. Urban areas right-leaning. While the majority think one way, the electoral college instills the will of the minority.

Numbers are the numbers, when a President wins an election, it doesn't mean most people wanted them president.

But, that begins the argument of the urban citizens losing out if the electoral wasn't in place.

Lastly, close-minded are those who can't/won't even open their own eyes......like so many down the bayou.

That's called anecdotal and isn't very accurate.

Nope. Your small bubble is just surrounded by other small bubbles.

No. Your bubble has more traffic. The close mindedness of your bubble is exactly the same as “down the bayou.” It’s just slanted in another direction.

This isn't limited to small towns. Bigger cities are filled up with the same type of close-minded people, they just have different values than those in small ltowns

It is amazing how little self-awareness you have. What makes you think your views are the only ones that come from opened eyes?

Your area might be, but not your bubble.

My city is liberal as can be. Most of my friends are straight, white males with mostly conservative views. My bubble is the same it was when I was in Louisiana.

Well besides Iowa and its 3000 people, the others are about 60/40 white to black.

How many Temples or Mosques do each have?
How prevalent/easily seen is the LGBT community?

Considering some of these are the sizes of Houston neighborhoods, I would guess its low.

Trying to say the view point of any of those three towns is on par with the most diverse city in the US (Houston) is ridiculous

You brought your soapbox and Houston into this.

What's your point in bringing in you living in Houston considering this side convo stemmed from you saying you've seen the inequalities and we haven't? Is it just you being around some gay people that makes you some authority on this? They tell you about it from them living somewhere else?

Let's keep in mind that a good segment on this board is from New Orleans, which has a huge gay and black population.

Precisely.

Go to any urban neighborhood in NY, SF, Seattle and see how much political opinion varies.

Well there's plenty of empirical data to support there being a wide gulf between rural and urban views. I don't particularly like the term "close-minded", but there's certainly a more conservative view of things in rural American than in urban and suburban areas. Part of it is just lack of exposure to different cultures, different ways of life, etc., but part of it also fueled by Fox News and the conservative media, along with mainstream and liberal media. There's a looking-down-their-nose from both sides, TBH.

So shocked that you lead with the issue being Fox News specifically by name then just causally mention the rest of the MSM in passing
