Not sure if I understand you. I'm talking about connecting another storage media to a old machine, not the other way around. I'm pretty sure they would already know what OS they are running, and could make a connector cable to convert a lets say flash drive to look like a floppy drive on their system. Like the following.

Comparing modern nuclear weapons to the atomic bombs we produced in 1945 is like comparing the Space Shuttle to a piston driven airplane.

Our first family computer was a Commodore 64 that we bought in the mid 80s. Even though I dropped the keyboard (which has about half the guts of a modern tower) and shattered the shell into pieces a couple of years ago when moving it the entire thing still works just fine. I simply taped the shell back together.
It's got a kick arse versions of Spy Hunter, Buck Rogers, and Mrs Pac-Man. I even have a VHS deck hooked up to it b/c it has multiple ports.
The point? Don't sleep on old tech b/c that was back when they actually tried to build shite to last.

You think your home automation system could control our nukes?
Maybe Obama asks Alexa to aim the nukes at Syria when he's had a few drinks.

If you were to upgrade, you'd lost the ability to monitor temperature, pressure, etc.

Doesn't really work with IT. Things that are old enough to warrant the phrase "if it ain't broke," typically have been made obsolete by safer, more performant technology.
Doesn't make sense in a lot of situations.
Chamber Pots and Outhouses weren't "Broke" but we still have indoor plumbing now.

It's harder to steal a USB than an 8" Floppy.
