The fact that there are women in the military at all is fricking ridiculous.

Why are any pregnant women on a goddamn ship during a deployment?

you say this and i would have previously agreed with you

BUT

I think this is better than females continuously missing deployments because they're pregnant. At least they are fulfilling their commitment (somewhat).

I agree, especially if all of them in one area have the same "time-of-the-month"

Saw one of these docs from the early 90's. They interviewed some poor bastard scrubbing toilets. He said, "I've only made 2 mistakes in my life. One was signing up for the navy, the other was signing up for 6 years."

Can some one imagine this happening on a sub engaged in combat operations?

There's like 3000 crew on board an aircraft carrier against Isis who doesn't exactly have the capability to attack the ship. It's not like there's not all kinds of clerical jobs and what not the women can be doing. Plenty of sandwich makers on a ship that big. I don't see the issue here.

Also, you guys really think she go pregnant on this tour? How long have they been out to sea? Aren't most tours 6 months?

Ridiculous she didn't report it though.

frick that. What's better, having a pain in the arse pregnant woman on a ship who likely does nothing or one that's not on a ship at all?

The baby was 7lbs, so that may be a little light but still pretty much full term. She works and lives constantly surrounded by people including many situations of limited to no privacy (berthing, heads, etc..).

I know I'm speculating and that some women show more than others during a pregnancy, but for this to go full term undetected on a forward deployed carrier almost requires her base condition to be somewhat (to very) overweight - and I saw plenty of that in my navy days.

In fact, if she's like some of the people I knew she may have been trying to eat her way out of active duty and is now pissed off that she just lost 7lbs.

Oh yes the old let me get knocked up trick.

Works almost every time.

I'm sure some find out they are pregnant during the deployment

So low physical fitness equals pregnancy?

Having a giant gunt can make it harder to notice a pregnant belly.

What would be better is not having to deal with women and all the bullshite the drag along with them at all.

if she were that fat (we don't know for certain)

Then she should have been let go.

I guess sex doesn't burn that many calories after all

That's true

Had one in my unit that was allergic to every damn thing. She couldn't wear boots because she developed an allergy to it. At least that was the excuse. Bitch never showered either

I had medical escort duty from the Gulf to Frankfurt. We had a Mess Cook that stopped showering for like a month, then later on attempted suicide. My replacement was already on board so I got the duty.

Yes I do.

Currently deployments (due overworking our warships thanks to the lack of enough combat ships in the fleet) run between 9 months and a year.

During my time in the navy it was VERY routine for women to become pregnant during deployments where men and women served together (Tenders).

quote:

USS Acadia (AD-42) was a Yellowstone-class destroyer tender in the service of the United States Navy, named after Acadia National Park. She was inactive and in reserve after her 1994 decommissioning at Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii under Maintenance Category B, until sunk off Guam during a live fire training exercise Valiant Shield on 20 September 2010. She was the first ship to house a wartime mixed sex crew and was unofficially nicknamed 'The Love Boat' after 10% of all women on board became pregnant during deployment.[2]

This was the first wartime deployment of a mixed male-female crew on a U.S. Navy combat vessel. Just over one third of her crew were women, which caused some controversy when during the course of the mission 1 in 10 of the female crew either became pregnant or discovered they already were.

You put young men and women together for months at a time...guess what...they frick. Welcome to biology.

If it was like the early 2000's you had to fail 3 straight fitness tests (6 months apart) to be let go. Now, the people who administered the tests were as shady as it gets, so if you we're trying to get out on body fat % alone you'd have to go way over, lest they "misread" the measurements and restart the 18 month clock. After each failure you'd be sent to a mandatory physical fitness program but in a lot of cases that was pretty loosely enforced.
