Agree this is outrageous and leads down a bad road.

That gets sticky when you have community property.

My oldest son has a lot of debt. His now wife has none. You can't start seizing their items due to his debt.

Define "large". If I can just not pay off my student loan, what about my car loan? home loan? Any other debt?

Why should a debt be forgiven? And do you not see anything wrong with just forgiving the debt?

Don't seize community property?

It's all about context. And it was definitely implied. But I'll cut you some slack.

what if the debtor doesn't legally own anything? If he has no home, auto, and no job, what do you do?

Yeah you can. If the items are community.

First, don't forget that some of the student loan debt problems are from degree mills. They should have to pay, not the students who got their worthless degrees.

Second, why should someone be burdened with debt their entire life for their college education?

Don't forgive it universally, I guess, but cut and forgive where necessary.

Student loans aren't car loans, they aren't home loans. I'm all for debt payment.

Then do the other part of my idea. Force them into low rent areas and garnish their wages.

There really is no other option if you want to get paid back, besides chain gangs, which I'm all for but the human rights blowhards won't allow it.

I'd love some chain gangs out there fixing our infrastructure with free labor. Personally, I think all non-violent criminal offenses should do that as well instead of living on our dime in prisons.

Definitely advise against getting a second Liberal Arts degree.

A prevalent theme in your posts, across various topics, is the idea that people should have no accountability for their actions.

That's a fricking scary thing. You need to grow up.

So much for personal responsibility, huh? If you don't want a worthless degree, don't go into a program for one. And frankly the loaners in this case shouldn't give out loans for them, but that's an entirely different issue.

Once they pay off their debt, then they will be unburdened!

How about we just get rid student loans? Why are my tax dollars subsidizing other people's liberal arts degree?

Why are we sending money all over the world when we can reinvest in our own people?

no, you're not! Debt is debt. How do you differentiate between student loan debt and any other?

but the borrower borrowed the money. No one forced them to take out the loan. Thats on them.

define "necesary". What arbitrary figure do you think defines necessary?

Some should never pay them back. It'd be a poor financial decision.

Most people do not have assests worth garnishing anyways.
