I also have compassion. But I have it with MY money. I don't pretend to think I can or should be able to tell ANY OTHER PERSON or government entity what to do with their money. Under NO circumstance should I be able to tell Cades, yoga girl, Chicken or the US govt. how to be charitable. That is the principal fault of socialism.

they will base your monthly loan payback payments on your income and your bills. So it is a reasonable way to pay back your loans without going into the red.
I understand from websites that those "terms" are still draconian, and never end.
So, the problem is still not solved.

Some of you are fricking lunatics to think this is acceptable and okay.
When you can't pay your car note, what happens? The lender repos it. You aren't arrested.
When you can't pay your mortgage (in most states), what happens? The bank forecloses on it. You aren't arrested.
When you can't pay your credit card bills and other expenses (medical for instance), what happens? You declare bankruptcy. You aren't arrested.
You don't pay your student loan and a task force of 7, armed US Marshals kick in your front door and haul you off? Something is very wrong here.

Then don't take out the loan in the first place. The world needs ditch diggers worse than it needs Russian Literature majors anyway.

Gender studies is a perfectly appropriate major. Whether you should be able to borrow a significant amount of money to pursue that degree is a different issue, and I suspect I would agree with you. Borrowing money to pay private school tuition and board to obtain a gender studies degree is very foolish.
We also need more emphasis on trade schools. A good plumber will make way more than someone with a gender studies degree.

Yes they do end. When the loan is paid back.

If anything they could forgive interest, but under no circumstances should the principal of the loan be forgiven.

Actually, they came because he ignored a lawful summons by a court, but don't let facts get in the way of your dictatorship of the proletariat meme.

I'd be all for taking someone's education away, if you can come up with a way to do that. I'm all ears.

That would probably work in most cases, but there are always exceptions. Perhaps they need to make it where you could file it in bankruptcy, if certain conditions are met.

I get it that you can't take the diploma down from the wall. Garnish the wages by a certain percentage (10-20%).

Another excellent way to get cash for student loan payments. The girls have told me that for years. They're all working their way through medical school.

Debtors prison is a slippery slope and it is NOT the answer.
They should just seize everything they own and require them to live in a low rent place and garnish their wages until its paid.
