Yea, that place "on Lake Bonham" really has me hot to trot.
My brother, who is a strong swimmer, once swam across Lake Bonham.

I own a farm. I know a lot of people who own land, and no one calls their land a "ranch."
A ranch is in Montana or N.M.
Good to know there are only two states you can own a ranch.

I mostly hear, 'going to my property' but 'going to my ranch' is used a good amount.

Ranch sounds pretentious. I have family members with ranches (NM and Montana) and if you called them a "farm" it would sound ridiculous.
you are the one talking about owning land on internet message board, don't talk to me about pretentious.
Maybe I just grew up around smug people in Houston but I hear/heard ranch a ton. Might be regional

Thanks for taking it way out of context. We were discussing how local people describe their land. In the West, ranch (even West Texas). But, around where my land is, almost everyone calls their place a farm.

Yep, among other things.
Too bad you got that big pigmentation defect in the forehead.

When you say that, I think we've had some people come up from Houston for horse events that use "ranch" rather than "farm."
How is "owning land" pretentious? There might be one "pretentious" place in Fannin County
Most of the long time landowners are old men who hang out every morning drinking coffee.

You borrow the money, pay it back. It's not hard.

I think it is pretty stupid to call something a farm when all you do is raise cattle on it

Georgia started a new policy this year of taking people's State tax return if they owe money to the legal system (tickets or fines).
How is this just now a thing?

I know we've already done enough analysis, but it is strange since most have nothing but cattle. They will call it a farm but don't describe themselves as farmers (not that I have heard). I'll be paying more attention the next few weeks

It's really pretty simple though.
If you raise livestock, it's a ranch. If you grow crops, it's a farm.
If you do neither, it's just some land.
ETA: Obviously that's a generalization as well... but it fits for the most part.

I'm no size queen and sure as hell don't want anything two feet long coming anywhere near me.
I assumed, however, that it was your preference.
