I've heard of people quitting their jobs to get the $300 per week fed unemployment. I thought if you quit you weren't eligible?
we went out to eat at BJs recently and were told that there was a 30 minute wait. i could see clearly that they were at maybe 30% capacity. i asked if they hadn't opened to full capacity and she said "we're 100%. we just don't have the staff to keep up."
purely anecdotal but i've heard more than a few places have lost some of their workforce when the stimulus hit.

So either the week before, or this week were probably just a skewed data point. Overall it's still trending in the right direction.
eta: not a biden supporter at all, but one data point does not make a trend, especially when the week before was WAY down from two weeks ago.
What happened two weeks ago? Stimmys. This is where we are at in this country. People really want to just sit around and wait on the gubment.

That's a lot of it... With Unemployment and Stimulus checks coming in, people are quitting because they don't want to work.

Nearly every restaurant and bar in BR is advertising hiring all positions right now.
TJ Ribs, Merchant, Ivars, etc.

This is before Biden’s massive tax hikes on corporations too
Every business knows taxes are coming and with a vengeance. They are holding on to capitol and holding off on hiring or preemptively letting the weak ones go.

Even the Popeyes near me has starting at $11/hr sign.
This is what happened during Obama. Lowest participation in the work force. People literally thought because Obama was pres, he'd take care of them and make sure the government cheese kept rolling in.
Lines of able bodied men waiting for their checks.

Service industry is having a tough time hiring back. Unemployment is turning out to be lucrative for these workers.
Teenagers could be looking at the best summer labor market in a long time if they wanted to work.

If you quit because you were worried about COVID, you're covered.

Still, the four-week average of claims, which smooths out week-to-week gyrations, fell by 10,500 to 719,000 — the fewest since mid-March 2020, just before the pandemic began to cause widespread layoffs.
