Politicians would get too damn much grief but what ought to happen is do away with food stamps which are used fraudulently in every way possible and go back to the commodities process which took place when I was a kid.
Let needy folks line up for cheese, peanut butter, bread, canned meat, sugar, salt, flour, and so on.
Unfortunately, the costs associated with corruption, fraud, and government waste if we still had a commodity based system expanded to the size of the existing EBT system is FAR greater than the costs of using the efficiency of the commercial food distribution system tied to the corruption and fraud of the EBT system.
Can you imagine how many slow, witless, lifetime government employees the Dept. of Agriculture would have to hire just to physically manage a system of that size?

There's a reason why everything in America is loaded down with a ton of cheese.

Canada has beat the snot out of the US dairy industry. With the previous trade deals, it was forcing US producers out and Canadian producers took over.
What many people missed from the article is that just because exports have slowed and demand is down, beef cattle aren’t made at the snap of a finger. A 500lb feeder calf took 16-17 months to make. Couple that with how the US Esther’s import cattle from Central America that has been shot up with no telling what chemicals, doesn’t help the US producers. In the US, producers have to abide by certain regulations. Central American beef don’t. They get them from across the border and put them in a feed lot for a few months and they are able to call it US beef.
