1 american soldier lost isn't worth that whole shithole country.

If you're gonna go to war, grab your sack and go to war. don't pussyfoot around and send some token force to get overwhelmed. Go in guns blazing and with all the stops pulled out and leave nothing standing or don't go at all.

It's like we learn nothing from history.

So does that mean you DON'T really know you're just spouting something you heard but have no proof of existing?

So the president refuses to get us sucked into a sectarian civil war in a place that would make Lebanon in the 80s look like a playground (you remember, that place where Reagan cut and ran after the Marine barracks bombing)? The place where we're supposed to sort out a fight between Assad, the Free Syrian Army, ISIL, Al Qaeda, Jabhat Al-Nusra, Iran, Russia, the Rojava/PKK/YPG Kurds, Turkey, and more, from the air?

Yeah, what a pussy.

The president sends 300 soldiers to assist West African ally in combating a growing insurgency?

That warmonger! Or pussy? I can't tell. There's just no pleasing some people, is there?

Agreed. Boko Haram is on par with ISIS when it comes to brutality.

And? You go to any one of a dozen shithole warlord dominated countries and you'll see atrocities enough to make your blood boil. You think it's the job of American boys to die to change essentially nothing? You kill one snake and another slithers in to take it's place.

It's in the God damn soil. It's in the blood. Some places will never know peace until they are under the power of a supreme force. And frankly, I don't care.

No they aren't, it's a problem strictly local to that area.

Yup. And we don't need to meddle and prop up the next terrorists there. Let 'em kill each other off.

When your brother dies in one of these "assist" you might feel differently.

True. And I don't reflexively support a mission like this. But I do think it's disingenuous to criticize non-intervention in Syria and intervention in Cameroon when the calculus of facts on the ground make it much more likely that many more American brothers would be killed in the conflict that people rag on Washington for not jumping into.

I remember class the Monday after Cameroon was knocked out of the African Cup of Nations. He looked like someone had killed his dog, and gave us a bunch of extra homework

Friend of mine is an SF medic who's deploying to the Congo. I suspect as part of this operation, since Congo borders Cameroon.
