A few weeks ago there was mention of Obama nominating a gay dude to lead the army. I don't know how any country would take us seriously if that happens.

Why don't you join the Army then if you are ready to lead?

Time to pull the frick out of there. There's no reason to get Americans killed and burn through money and resources for all this. Let that land settle itself.

Meanwhile Russia and China move in. This ostrich approach doesn't work in real life.

Oh no! If Russia and China get into Syria and we don't go to war with them over it, then, uh, we lose our Syrian travel visas?

Explain why I should care enough that China might go to Syria that I would support spending American lives, resources, time, talent, and billions of dollars waging a war there.

First off we don't have many troops there now. Second about 20% of our oil imports come from the region. That number is decreasing but still something we can't turn our back on given America is a vehicle country and so is our air travel, military and shipping.

While I agree to a point, the truth is that something will move in to fill the vacuum. Russia is opportunistic right now and Putin is doing his best to gain influence. Russia is not a friend to US interests. While int'l influence of the US shrinks, others will fill that void.

So in other words, they'll talk a lot of shite then not follow through on any of it. Let's be honest here. Everyone knows Obama won't do shite. You know it, I know it, the Syrians know it, and most importantly, Putin knows it.

while i agree this makes us look weak, it's for the best in the end. we don't need to get involved in more mud in the ME

Irrelevant. And has nothing to do with my question.

Oh! I forgot China vowed that of they ever got control of an oil country they'd never sell to America and we have 0 other options. And Russia with its massive economy has the money to sit on that oil and never sell it to America. Right? That's what you're insinuating. Unless we go to war with Russia and China for the right to put our own puppet government in control of Syria then we'll lose the ability to buy pip from the country?

Syria is a quagmire. There is no winning in the middle east. Unfortunately all side involved in these wars just love killing with no end.
The only solution is to leave these countries to themselves. Then they can live happily while perpetually killing each other.

Russias economy is dogshit. You think if they took over an oil selling country they'd stop selling the oil to the largest buyers because they're kaaarazzzyyy Russians?

But Slo! It's China! Scary arse China! And Russia! Of we don't fight wars to ensure the stop of the spread of communism then our children might one day grow up in a world where the United States doesn't control the oil reserves in Syria and instead has to purchase it's oil from a foreign land.

And to be clear, it's ok to purchase our oil from warlords and brutal dictators in the middle east as long as we don't have to deal with those Smelly Russians or those sneaky Chinese.

does anybody think the US would sit back if rebels engaged in a coup in Panama to shut off the Panama Canal?
