As a ups drivers, yes we act would prefer this.

You better make sure it's the right truck or I would put a rts on the package. No way am I digging for packages for 5 minutes and it's not even on the truck.

I did this years ago. But only because I was an acquaintance of the driver.

I've tracked down a truck after a missed delivery. He was one street over. I got it.

We dealt with this with Amazon, you can track your package to within a few hundred yards.

My son (12) was going out for football and needed new cleats, I ordered and they were to be delivered the Sunday before the first tryouts. We stood on the driveway waiting on Amazon Man just to watch him pass up our house. My son was so excited to get his cleats and then quickly bummed out as Amazon Turd passed us by.

I jumped in the truck and ran him down, I got the shoes and Jr made the team. Head Trauma be damned

I was walking in my neighborhood with my dog on an afternoon walk. The USPS guy knew where I lived. He actually asked me if I wanted my item when I was about 1/2 mile away from home. It was small so I agreed. I took it and stuck it under my arm and continued on home. He also handed me my other mail which was just a few letter sized envelopes.

anyone done this?

I was waiting for a package before I could leave town and the Postal Truck was driving down every side street but mine.

I drove over to where she was parked and she threw a fit. I really think she wanted to mace me. Plus no package.

I've done this before when waiting for motorcycle parts and coming home to find a notice that the UPS driver visited but didn't leave the package.

We got to know each other pretty good over the years as I've been in my house since 92, so if I saw him on the street, I'd stop and ask for my stuff and he'd oblige.

This time of year, they're on a fast track to deliver daily with Christmas and all.

The UPS driver did that a few times, even after I told him to leave it at the door in the entryway at the shop, so I put a sign on the door telling him to leave it. No problems since but aggravating at the time. Especially when he did that on a Friday with some stuff I needed badly.

What really pisses me off is when there is a sub carrier on the mail route and there is no mail for the small building I am in. She doesn't stop to see if there is anything outbound so packages start out a day late right off the bat.
