Monroe area is a better place to live than 3/4s of this state. Yeah it's full of rednecks but you won't find a better place in the state to live that's an hour away from some of the best hunting and fishing in the country.
If you like the big city life then no, it's probably not for you, but if you like to keep to yourself in a quite neighborhood or out in the country, it don't get much better.

Magic Grill or Ray's Pee Gee both have some wicked roast beef poboys with gravy!
Ray's was the originator of said sandwich, but they sold their restaurants and I heard some of the family opened Magic Grill.

West Monroe football on a Friday night. Nothing like it Baw.
Stay away from south Monroe, pretty much an armpit, south of I-20. Monroe is slowly turning into a ghetto, even the vaunted 'Garden District'.
Anything north of Monroe is pretty cool, west Ouachita parish is growing by leaps & bounds.
Cheniere Lake(southwest Ouachita Parish), Darbone Lake in Union Parish(Farmerville), Francis Creek.
Pecanland Mall, which is decent.

Either live in the Riverfront area by Forsythe, or West Monroe.

This is bullshite.
The truth is Well Road to Cheniere exit in West Monroe and Forsythe to Sterlington are very similar. Other parts of WM will be more redneck trash. Other parts of Monroe will be ghetto trash. Pick your poison. You're single so this might not play into your process, but WM schools are superior to Monroe City. Not even close. If your job is on the East side of WM, stay at Ashford Place or in an apartment on the river.

I spent a month in Monroe one weekend... I feel for you, the food sucks, people are wierd and one of the most boring places Ive ever been. The only thing good in Monroe is Catfish Charlies
