I always pay to pick my seat. I’m not giving it up because either you’re a cheap arse or didn’t plan ahead.

I've had this exact situation happen twice. First time I just said "I don't want a middle seat" and the guy understood.

Second time after a bit of experience I got all snooty. "With respect, you shouldn't even ask me. You should take the middle seat back there and make someone's day." That one actually didn't end up moving so it was a fantastic flight for both of us

No.

I used to fight this fight all the time when flying for the state of Louisiana. I made it a point to fly and stay at as cheap of hotels as I safely could because it was the taxpayers money. The one, one convenience I gave myself was a window seat on all my flights. I am not small, but I've been stuck between obese people before and it was an awful experience. The amount of people with kids that were entitled assholes to me when I said no about switching was embarrassing.

My favorite was when the lady coached her kid to say I was ruining his vacation, so I told the kid to ask the mom why she was too lazy to book a window seat. I'm nice for the first exchange and the around 30% second attempt, after that I am a gigantic a-hole because my time is my time.

frick them, if it's a comparable seat sure, but asking someone to downgrade because you can't be away from your wife for 80 min is a bitch move.

I’ll only consider it if it’s a parent wanting to sit with their young child. Other than that, you snooze you loose. Book your seats together next time. In the meantime, I’ll be staying in the seat that I paid for.

I’m with you as well. If they wanted the seats together they should have booked that way. Also what about her seat neighbors? They didn’t swap either or the person at the window on your aisle? You’re good.

I'm not, though if you've been here long enough, you realize a lot of the thread vibe is determined by the first couple replies.

But I have a kid and if I couldn’t find two seats together for us on a flight, I wouldn’t book that flight. I’d find another flight where I could get two seats together.

The assholes who book anyway and assume someone who paid extra for their specific seat would move just for them to sit together can go frick themselves.

Absolutely if it is the same seat type I will switch. I am not switching to a middle seat for anyone. I will occasionally book one for myself if my husband wants a window but alone in the middle is misery. And I am short and fit fine in the seat- it is just awkward.

Ask him what is his offer.

the nice gentleman in the middle seat asks if you will swap with his wife two rows back so they can sit together.

He is not a nice gentleman if he’s asking this question, he’s being a manipulative bitch that has been planning this for months when he bought those tickets

Aisle and window are more expensive.

I’ve never had a price change after I selected an aisle/window vs middle seat.

There is now way I’m going back and to a middle seat unless the aisle and window seat back there are occupied by two members of the Swedish bikini team still in uniform.

I’d have told them like I’ve told others before, I’ll trade my aisle for another aisle but I’m not taking a window or middle and downgrading my seating arrangement.

I’ve gotten mixed results, including the side eye.

Don’t care; enjoyed my flights.
