scooped up by a predatory bird

A little PSA for those with these or any other puppies:

Hawks most certainly can and will scoop up unattended puppies running around a back yard.

We were fostering some 5 or 6 puppies this summer. I let the puppies go out to run around one morning and no less than about 20 minutes later I counted 6 hawks circling overhead. At first they were really high, maybe 70 feet
up. Before I was able to round up all of them, the hawks were barely higher than the top of the house.

I am not sure at what size a dog is "safe" from a hawk, but I'd say it would be around 5 - 10 pounds.

My bad guys. The week of puppygate, I fell behind in a shitload of my classes. This week has been just me hammering coffee down and getting caught up.

I’ve been checking on her every morning and night, my wife does most of the caretaking during the day. She’s still doing well. The adopter is going to pick her up on the 19th. I think we all settled on the name “Riplee”

I’ll post pics tomorrow Fo Sho

Yep. I'm wondering about Twix.

Others seem to be OK.

My aunt's dog was killed by a hawk. Grown dog, maybe weighed 10 lbs.

She had the dog on one of those dog running lines in her backyard(long story). Hawk grabbed the dog....got frustrated when it realized the dog was attached to the line...dropped it to the ground (which killed it).

She's precious and you can tell she is healthier and happier. You can see it in her eyes.

I don't want this to come off wrong, but how in the F are you letting someone else take that dog?

Just dropped Ripley off at her forever home. Great poster here with a very nice family. I’m happy this little girl had the strength to pull through and will be spoiled at her new home I’m sure.

I remember those days with my lab. Beware of them chewing on everything. Mine ruined a 130$ pair of Merrels I had.
