Don’t like paying all the school taxes now? Wait until all the buses are mandated to be electric. My local news just last night reported on a bus company who pitched to local districts this week on the “benefits” of electric buses over diesel. One of these “benefits” is that the electric buses only cost $220k more than a diesel bus. Only $220k more.

I thought you meant the senseless bussing of kids away from their neighborhood schools into places they don’t live which just ruins things for everyone.

You want to know why we use busses? Because you can fit a lot of kids on them.

A larger issue - to me at least - as someone who could see themselves working in the education sector in the very near future, is the length of the school day + busing.

I see too many students getting dropped off from school buses at 5:30-6:00PM when those same students were likely picked up before 7:00AM. That is incredible to me. So they wake up way too early (studies have been done on brain development and concentration - kids should not be getting up at 5:30AM to catch the 6:30AM bus), go to school, get home, have to do homework for an hour or two and the day is done. No room to be a kid.

Bus drivers work like 3 hours a day 5 days a week. Do you really think that deserves full time pay?

Because half our population still won't work and provide for their families and stay off drugs.

The government wastes an incredible amount of money and this is what you’re complaining about?

Oh so you pay to not have the option of busing.

I am going to go one additional step the opposite way and say that public school buses should take kids to private school. Private school parents pay for busing through taxes.

Older days kids who lived close enough to school would walk if it was a safe walk (like not crossing a major highway) and other kids could catch the bus.

It helps kids get to and from school on time and it helps parents who may have to work at times that don't allow them to drop off / pick up their kids.

Of all the things wrong with our school systems...offering a bus is pretty far down the list.

In Louisiana, when I was a kid, they did.

Now some private schools refused that money and used their own bus.

A lot of public school students come from working class families, many who live in rural areas, where it would be costly to burn the gas every day. On top of trying to make it to work on time and dealing with hundreds of cars in carpool. I see no issue with buses. If you want to carpool, you always have that option.

There used to be a rural route bus here that goes down all the rough backroads that had no muffler and belched black smoke. You could hear it a mile away, ragged piece of shite guess they didn’t want gravel roads to destroy a nice one

Why do airplanes full of adults have seat belts but not a bus full of children?

Logistics wouldn’t work, on days we do not have bus service the drop off and pick up are cluster fricks. I couldn’t imagine the same scenario with dumb public school parents

That is why the Texas ISD model is great. It is all about local control. Our ISD should probably raise teacher pay and I’d vote accordingly. There is a looming teacher shortage coming and teachers are going to be in high demand. School districts will have to pay more to attract/retain teachers.

As for buses, what a dumb take. Some parents would never be able to make it to work on time without the buses.

Because adults are stupid enough to believe that seatbelts might help them in the event of a crash.

In reality it’s just to make it easier to identify the bodies.
