I never met the guy but just got off the phone with a guy that knows him very well and has for years. Says he is shocked that he did this. My other friend knows him from seeing him on jobsites and said he seemed like a completely normal plumber. Just a quiet, friendly good ol baw.

I think this is why they stopped short of calling him a serial killer. I think there is a connection but not necessarily the motive of simply being older white makes. I don't think it was random. Sheriff said info related to the killings would come out in the next few days.

I’ve met him a few times at his family’s holiday parties and he was exactly that, a guy that just seemed to enjoy being the loner drunk white trash cousin. No idea what made him snap

As others mentioned it would at least lend some closure if these were former customers who were either dissatisfied with him maybe via BBB complaint/word of mouth/witheld payment.

I don't think so. All of the victims were outside. Which to me sounds like he was just riding around until he saw someone.
Also, a friend I have in law enforcement said he immediately confessed and was saying he was crazy. Probably going for insanity.
