How do you tell? This is all I have:

I’m not sure on that one. I was about to say it’s a second edition because of the 1899 date, but the original copyright date is 1893/1899.
So I’m not sure

That set isn’t written by one person. It’s a set of biographies by different authors, so there should be at least two dates - original copyright and one when published as part of the set.

But the second 1899 has me thinking it’s a second edition

My hunch without looking it up is that the second row is the copyright date for this series and likely the first time published as part of this set.

The first row numbers are probably the publishing years for the original biography.

If you grab an older person like for John Adams, it’ll probably have a much older year in the first row and 1899 or near it in the second row like the one in the pic for when it was published as part of this set.

What about old Seiko watches? Any value?
What about some Lenox fine China platters?

You're correct. Samuel Adams for example has 1885 as the first date. All of them that I've check so far have a second date of 1899.

watches

That’s one thing I don’t know, watches.

As far a fine china, they are not worth what they use to be worth. Keeping grandma’s china is not big anymore, basically making them worth very little
