Houma, but if you going the day of Endymion is the East Houma Parade. Its good just not as good as the parades the weekend before.

Your best bet is gonna be NOLA that weekend. Those parades are great for kids and families. There is plenty of space between magazine and St.Charles that is easy to get to and good for families.

I talked to a bunch of people on the route last year who drove over from New Orleans and Metairie, keep in mind Southshore folks think the Northshore is the dark side of the moon, just to bring their kids to a safe parade.
those people sound like pussies because metairie parades and the first half of the Nola route are as safe as can be

I mean...take them anywhere. Disney World? Mardi Gras is only in New Orleans.

Shreveport Highland Parade. Sunday before Mardi Gras. Family friendly, during the day. Cops don’t care if you open container, etc.

Have to agree with the poster that said Mobile. Still a big deal with lots of parades and more pg rated than it used to be but way more family friendly than Nola. Bonus: moon pies!

Man, I got kamalaflopped at a Houma parade one Mardi Gras. Those cats don’t play around. It was pretty great...until the next day.

Haha no. Houma is nothing but trashy fat girls and trashy guys with skinny beards with an ever increasing amount of culcha.

If down in that part of the world go to the Thibodaux parade.

But seriously, avoid downtown New Orleans and just find a nice spot uptown roughly around Napoleon.

Stay in TN with your wife, enjoy the weather, and be fortunate that you're no where near a place that celebrates mardi gras.

I've done that for many years and understand what you're saying.

When people say this I am convinced they have never done Mardi Gras outside of the quarter or downtown.

booked a room on st Charles near Emeril's.

Emerils is a few blocks from St Charles. Unless you’re talking about his offices on St Charles

What hotel did you book?

If you’re going to watch parades on that side of town I would suggest going down to Desi Vegas and Lafayette square area and get tickets for the bleachers or grandstands, especially with young kids.

If I were you I’d change all those plans and go Uptown. You and your Kid’s will have a much pleasurable experience

Also, you’re going to be towards the middle to end of the parades and your kids will get tired of being out there.

Better to be at the beginning of the route. That’s why Napoleon and Camp/St Charles makes the most sense for families.

This.

To me the best family parade and location is on Magazine for Thoth. It's a day time parade and they throw a ton. For that section, Thoth is the only parade to go along there, so it's not ever that crowded.

Go somewhere else besides New Orleans. The place is a shithole and you never know what kind of fricked up shite is going to happen. Might be walking with your kids down the road and it buckles swallowing everyone into an underground cavern of STDs and vomit.

Of its possible to catch Cleopatra do it. Its the best parade for kids hands down. Tons of awesome throws and its usually not that crowded down magazine.

I booked the Maison St. Charles and it's non-refundable. Great price for 2 bedroom suite and it's on the route is what I figured. It's a short walk back to the room to use the bathroom and a block from what looks to be some good restaurants (voodoo bbq, a pizza place, seafood rest. and what I thought was Emerils Delmonico).

I spoke to the lady at the front desk of the hotel and she said it was a very family friendly area during parades. Im sure there are better spots on the routes for kids but it's done now.

Thanks all for the advice. I'll keep checking back for more.
