Cadaver dogs notified police that a dead body had been in the trunk of Casey Anthony.

I've watched programs on cadaver dogs in the past. It's incredible what they can detect and differentiate.

In all reality, the case likely raised very few, if any, eyebrows when it was first reported
I agree with that. That's why the "long wait" before filing a missing police report doesn't really matter.
Using Sept 11 as the date filed doesn't mean the parents hadn't contacted law enforcement. Law enforcement might just not been willing to act without knowing something was up.

The police claimed that.
Oddly enough, one can't put a dog on the witness stand.

That's right. I remember it being discussed.

No but you would think the police would have inspected the van with cadaver dogs at this point. It would be interesting to know the results.

Until more scientific testing comes out, cadaver dogs are on the same level as bitemark experts to me (not reliable at all).

Dogs are incredible, I’ve seen them find things that shouldn’t be possible. Truly amazing sense of smell..

I believe that if they had a hit by the cadaver dogs inside the van Brian would have publicly been named a suspect and not a person of interest. That's just my opinion, though.

All this tiptoeing around and silence have made the speculation of a non-simple event seem more likely.
How LEO handled this case, if it was a simple murder-run scenario, is baffling.

They just went out here in Bardstown in the Crystal Rogers case and got cadaver dog hits on "items of interest" on a property her boyfriend used to own (got sent off to Quantico by the FBI). She disappeared 6 years ago. It really is incredible.

From what I've read a lot depends on their training. A well trained cadaver dog is supposedly 95% accurate. I don't think the bite mark experts can claim that same accuracy.

I'm sure some claim it

So they found a body and it appears to be her? Pending confirmation by physical identification, tattoos, and DNA
And the next step has to be forensics to establish a cause of death, drug screen, and antemortem trauma.
So, barring BL being found we may have real information in another 24-48 hours including the cause of death.

They've also managed to find drugs that weren't even in vehicles.
Which is why the use of drug dogs in traffic stops is being contested in the courts.
