Not me. You'd be at the mercy of idiots who will, almost certainly, still be out driving in the shite. I don't want to be anywhere near that stretch of 72 on a sunny day.

Look, I've got more important shite to worry about. So, go ahead and threaten to whip my arse, I will call you ignorant, drunk, white trash, and we can get on with our day.

Touche...lol. I admittedly haven't been on that stretch of highway in a very long time.
I do remember however that much of that stretch of I-65 in Limestone County between the Tennessee River and the Tennessee state line offers several really good sight lines looking south and west where the storms will be coming from. There are very few places like that in Alabama that offer stretches of those kinds of unobstructed views of the horizon. Almost everywhere else in North Alabama the view is obstructed by either the heavily forested landscape and of course all the hills and mountains in the area.
Edit: I'd also recommend the stretch of I-22 between the I-22/I-65 junction and the Jasper area. That stretch is a bit rugged and hilly but it's another stretch that isn't quite as heavily forested and offers some distance views.

Are these storms going to be out of the Tuscaloosa area by 6pm? Rebs and Bama supposed to play tonight

Now, that one isn't a bad approach if you're going to chase this area. I figure most may end up there, but will start farther west and chase this way. At that point they're playing it by ear.
This is just a terrible area to chase. You can be perfectly positioned with a huge tornado within miles of you and not be able to have a clear visual. Outside of being dangerous, that puts them in a position of doing everything right and still not getting a payoff. And let's face it, with today's chasers most of them are looking for the payoff.
The drone approach to video that we saw last week is the way I would go. Get in the right spot and send the drone up. I think we will see more and more of that.

Btw, those storms northeast of Tuscaloosa and west/northwest of B'ham need to be watched. That area west/northwest of the Bham area has potential to go severe in the next hour.

I figure the PDS watch is coming around noon. It will likely cover most of North AL and North MS, stretching farther South in MS. Not sure how far South in AL.

Good point. Now that I think of it even though that stretch of I-65 offers some good unobstructed views there aren't many reliable east/west roads off of it to best position yourself for an approaching tornado.

Totally agree. The drone footage of the Silas, AL tornado last week was mesmerizing and will likely inspire a lot of stormchasers to start using drones a lot more.

I live in Athens, not far from 72. 72 in Athens is a shite show on a daily basis!

There are good roads, just few and far between. There's just no ideal way to approach chasing down here. And with the amount of rain we've had and still to come, the road issue gets worse. We already have flash flooding in areas that will see storms later.
