You do know that most people who own guns agree with you. Saying shite like that just makes you look dumb.

Ian David Long (shooter)
He posted information about his military service on a special forces forum called ShadowSpear in March 2017. Long said he had served in Afghanistan, was an infantry machine gunner in the Marine Corps for 4½ years, and was an instructor in Okinawa in Japan.
He was with 2/3, a light infantry battalion based out of Hawaii. They had 14 KIA on an Afghan deployment in 09 and spent time in both Marjah and Sangin in 10/11. Gotta chalk this one up to legit PTSD.

It should be a two pronged approach, absolutely. Mental health treatment in this country sucks considering the resources we have and absolutely needs to improve
I hate when people make it an either/or thing
The resources are there for vets. Problem is the ones who need it most are too stubborn to ask for help and the ones who don't need it abuse it.

They're really not.

The VA system is a joke. The hoops and hell my buddies and relatives have had to leap through, just to get some approximation of help is insane. One is a diabetic and the hell he goes through to get it managed is beyond belief.

Why is this? I think any sane human being, regardless of political affiliation, can admit that if you ship people off to foreign lands to fight for your country and possibly die, you should at least be taken well care of if you don't die. Come on, why is this a thing? I can only guess that its government incompetence.

See my previous post. It is because they are of not use after their service is over. Is it wrong? Yes, it is wrong as can be. It is also an ugly reality that needs to seriously change.

Right...but you would think it would be easier to recruit soldiers if they know they will be taken care of. If I knew I would be tossed aside after my days of useful service are up, I probably wouldn't volunteer for that job.

It's absurd that the military won't take care of it's veterans.
The military provides none of it's budget to the VA. The VA has to beg and plead Congress to get funds from the general public money.
There's no reason the military can't fund the VA and treatment for it's veterans from it's astronomical slice of the budget pie.
I'm pretty sure the VA was established because congress recognized that treating veterans could bog the military. It also gave Veterans Affairs a seat within the presidential cabinet.

Oh, they're told they'll be taken care of.

I can agree with you somewhat, but to be factual, the guys in WW1 and WW2 had that many KIA within an hour of landing in country and a good bit had 14 of their own platoon killed in front of them. I think PTSD is a terrible thing and it is very real, but it is painfully obvious that the generations before us managed their issues much much better. I don't know why, but I do know it is.

So I have changed my stance on gun control. I could be for complete gun control under the circumstance of mandatory minimum sentences for anyone caught with a gun (say 20 yr). That would keep law abiding citizens from breaking the law and lock up those who chose not to abide and more than likely all but eliminate mass shootings (refer to gun control laws in China). Problem is if we instituted this as law, within three years we would hear that gun control is culturally bias and that it is solely responsible for incarcerating a generation of under privileged youths who, due to their environment, could not possibly adhere to the law and it is just unfair. That is exactly what would happen and why we can't ever have true gun control.

PTSD.
PTSD does not generate behavior such as this. I have personally worked thousands of PTSD cases in the Mobile to Fort Walton Beach area. Suicide out of guilt for survival, yes good possibility. Mass murder, no.

Ok tough guy. Obviously part of my post was hypothetical bc like I said, it will never happen. But, are you telling me if there was a way to all but eliminate gun violence or even decrease so much that you thought it was eliminated, but to get that you would not be able to own a gun and you would not be on board with that? You owning a gun is more important than the safety of your family, friends, and self? Mine? Wow

Hot take there bud. Maybe do some research and understand the systemic racism black people have faced in this country post segregation. I recommend 13th. Currently on Netflix and for good measure frick Nixon.

But the problem is, who says it will eliminate the gun violence. You have to also understand that for as many that think guns should be eliminated for the safety of everyone, there are just as many who think they should have guns for protection and their own safety.
