Father did it

And how many responded to being called by name? How many could be "shouted back" like the other poster claimed?
My point is not whether autistic kids can sign, I'm sure those high on the spectrum can learn it.
My point was simple, there is a very high chance that a non-verbal autistic 6 year old would not respond to being "shouted back" in the instance that he ran too far away from the father and that the father (having raised a non-verbal autistic child) should have known better than to let him out of sight. The other guy argued that when his daughter gets away from him simply shouts her back. My argument is that with autistic children, that is almost never effective, and you cannot compare "shouting back" a normal child to an autistic one.
ETA: you are the one who got all snarky and accused me of claiming I was an expert.

I mean really, just how far would a 6yr old autistic kid get? Was some kidnapper just waiting there for a nonverbal kid to come along?
This is the problem I have with this. The child didn't outrun this guy on the path. If there was no abductor, it leaves two options: Run into the lake and run the other direction into the woods. On top of that, the park was supposedly full of people when this happened. How did no one see anything???
This story is really sad. I don't want to cast blame on the dad, but I can't help but be suspicious of his involvement.

You clearly don't have experience with non-verbal autistic kids, there is no such thing as "shouting them back" They do not respond to verbal commands, hence "non-verbal"
That's not always the case. My son is non-verbal, autistic and turns 6 in a week. The only non-verbal part about it is he can't talk. He listens to commands and is on a normal mental level for his age. He uses an iPad to "talk". That being said, no way in hell am I letting him wander off away from me. My biggest fear is him getting lost without his device and not being able to tell anyone who he is.

Nope...Sinister, you are wrong. Loopback said..

I am done with this. Its now obvious to everyone you generalized a disability based on your experience with one child. I never called you out or called you stupid or anything of the sort. I was just trying to educate you, and anybody else reading, before I have to "go back to my cave".

There is just something not adding up about this story.
They just played his 911 call on the news. There was no fear in his voice. Sounded like he was ordering a pizza.
They said he was at the park with a female friend but not releasing who she is.
I hope they find the kid and I hope it is just the kid running off, hiding in the woods.
But I just have a feeling the father and his girlfriend did something to that baby. They may not even been
In the park.
I hope I'm wrong

A very strange story. Very strange. The mom sounds heartbroken.

Maybe he should’ve tried to stay closer.
I bet the dad did it.

Did the person with him have the same condition?!?

Rule kidnapping out no reason to kidnap a kid with severe autism. Hell I wouldn’t.

This was conveniently added to the story yesterday. The child has been missing for what, 5 days? He didn't bring this up until people began criticizing his inability to keep up with a 6 year-old. And what about the WOMAN with him? I've seen her now described as his "girlfriend" in one report, yet she isn't the mother. Doesn't add up.

I’m jumping to conclusions but I wish there was a vigilante out there for these type of situations.

Interesting thought process continues for the father.
Suspiciousness.
