I do not believe that any university's sports information office ought to be able to dictate what ESPN, etc. calls their sports teams.
Universities have real, legal names and that's the name their sports teams should be known by.
That said, I'd rather ULL were in CUSA than LA Tech, FAU, FIU, etc.

Before it was USL it was SLI. They won a national championship in boxing before WWII, and uncle boxed light heavyweight for them.
The whole ULL thing was a political ploy to be UL but they forgot that in state politics they weren't more powerful than Northeastern which is ULM
They are governed at state level in the same pot with McNeese, Nichols, etc...
Also, they decided to become a major college for the 1974 season after going 0-11 the season before against McNeese, LaTech, Northwestern Louisiana, Northeastern Louisiana, Southeastern Louisiana, Lamar and Arkansas State plus out of conference games which did not include a major college.

SLI then USL's mascot was Bulldog until sometime in the mid 60's. They started calling themselves Ragin Cajuns before it was official.

While this is a beat to death topic, ESPN can call them Louisiana if they want. It doesn't really matter.
ULL is little brother.

What's funny is they couldn't possibly represent the state any less than they do, being as regional as they are. Does anyone really think that people from North Louisiana identify themselves as Cajun?
