The fact there the shoulder is about 6 inches wide stops me. Last thing I want is to get clipped by someone texting, eating, changing radio stations, etc.

They did this in my town on a major road. Took away a drivers lane to add a two way bike lane. I can travel the couple miles of the bike lane, and see one, maybe two bikers on it. At the same time drivers have to deal with a loss of a lane. Half the time those POS bikers still use the regular roads and slow down the one lane left. I can't stand fricking bikers

That's the risk millions of cyclists take daily. The road is for cyclist and motorists.

I think you missed the biker thread earlier. This is about cycling.

Bikes do not belong on roads ever until they can travel as fast as cars can. I hate when bikes get in my way. Ride on the grass or sidewalk. That's what I did as a kid when I rode a bike.

That is kinda my point, with a bike lane you lower the "risk" and make is safer for everyone. I mean you ride, so in Houston a major city wouldn't a designated bike lane be a major improvement? I'm not sure if where you are is similar to where I am where the shoulder to ride is non-existent but it they had a designated bike lane I think more people would bike to work. Taking my "chances" on the road isn't exactly ideal the way people drive.

I would say that it's not done because A) it would be too expensive and B) it's not needed.

Cars take up more space, require much more road maintenance, and kill far more people. We have to actually install different-color lights at every major intersection to keep cars from killing people.
When it comes to roads that aren't exclusive to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians aren't the problem; motorists are.
