I fly about 50,000-60,000 miles per year with DAL. I've only ever seen them reassign all seats if there was a last minute change in plane types. Maybe they do it more often and I just don't notice.
He's referring to passengers that don't have status and therefore don't have access to seats held back for them. So DL will assign at gate.

I fly for work, and I'll admit that when I go the yoga pants/tennis shoes route, I feel like I look like a college kid flying home to visit mom/dad. You definitely get treated better when you're dressed well. But I also admit I much prefer dressing casually, comfort wise. I'd say I go about 50/50 on dressing casually vs. wearing my business casual attire.
Also - All my heels have metal in them and I have to take them off and walk barefoot through TSA pre-check, which is disgusting. If I wear tennis shoes, no need to take them off.

Correct. For clarification, this was all started by some woman who overheard part of the conversation between the girls and the gate agent. She had no clue that they were flying on passes, no clue there were rules in place and no clue that the girls were violating said rules. But she fired off on social media anyway. Her original post on the thing smacked of FemiNazi BS about the airline trying to tell WOMEN what they could and couldn't wear. Typical.

Not sure why this pictures was posted again. It wasn't the people in question, if you read the caption it was about 4 women in leggings in DC for a 4th of July celebration.

Every time I've used a buddy pass I've been prewarned by the person letting me use it that I need to be dressed in business casual.
Anytime I've traveled check or pleasure on company benefits I was given guidelines on dress and behavior. This is such a non story.

So did United fire the employee who gave the pass to these idiots?
I hope not, however they are going to have their amount of available passes reduced, unfortunately due to the actions of others they were trying to help out.

But then the company came out to clarify that the girls prevented from boarding were what are known as “pass riders,” or those who fly for free or sharply reduced rates because they’re employees or their relatives.
Good for United. There are certain dress standards for those who have the leek of flying on those kinds of passes. It's been like that for as long as I could remember. If the girls did not know about this, it falls back on the family member who provided them with passes for not informing them.

They were using the pass thing as cover.
Here, have another downvote.

I wish we could see a comparison of these non-rev rules for all airlines so that United could somewhat be exonerated
ETA: Some folks are just entirely too comfortable in public with what they are willing to wear and how they act. People used to dress up to fly because it was an event. Now there are many in pajamas.

The news is real.
What's fake is that a few Twitter users being outraged somehow represents a larger problem.

quote:If you read your OWN post, they weren't customers, they were free pass riders and then United said "The company insisted regular paying customers are more than welcome to wear leggings on United flights" I have ridden on airlines before on free passes, and it was made clear to me that when riding on a pass, you are essentially representing the company, and dress accordingly.
hopefully their customers are smart enough

I flew United twice in the last month and their customer service was outstanding. I was actually blown away with how accommodating they were especially considering one of the times I was traveling with small kids.

Whoever the employee is who gave them the tickets should be fired immediately. You can't badmouth the company you work for on social media.
I worked at a hotel and a "guest" from another hotel within the brand complained on trip-advisor about her stay even though it's a employee rate. She was fired and completely failed to understand why.

sure you can..... but, you have to deal with the consequences.

I'm of course good with UA having a dress code for non-rev flying passengers.
But IMO, doesn't matter who is right/wrong, getting this much bad press over some leggings is not exactly a good business approach.

I hate United. Unfortunately the airport 5 mins from my house is a major hub so I have to use them.

I wish this were more strictly enforced. People dress like slobs to fly these days.
Good for United

Is it really bad press if most people are taking the airlines' side?
At least they are in here... I have no idea about twitter.

Even so the random people that are like "I won't fly UA again!!!!" aren't flying enough to cut into their bottom line. Nor will they remember 18 months from now when UA is $275 cheaper vs. American.
