United Airlines apologized on Tuesday after a dog died on a flight during which it was stored in a passenger’s overhead compartment. A witness said that a flight attendant had ordered the pet owner to put the dog in the compartment before the plane took off.

Are those compartments really airtight?

I did not know that.

She could probably use an emotional support peacock to help her cope.

Was a selfie of this chick crying really necessary?

No better way to share someone else's tragic story than by posting a selfie.

I lost my dog very recently (and unexpectedly) so I can empathize with her emotions. That poor little pup.

I don't necessarily blame the Airline as it was clearly against their policy, but absolutely frick that flight attendant. Someone should shove him/her in one of those overhead bins and see how they like it.

Seriously, what in the frick is wrong with that flight attendant that they thought that was the best option? If I were that pet's owner, I would have said like hell is my dog going up there.

United said the flight attendant didn't know there was a pet in the bag. I'm inclined to believe that...what stands up to reason better? That the attendant demanded she close a live animal in the overhead bins or that she told the passenger to put what she thought was a regular bag in the overhead bins?

And I'd also counter, what in the frick is wrong with the pet owner? She clearly wasn't too concerned about the dogs well being seeing as she agreed to shove it up in the bin. She could have easily said, "no I'm not going to do that and if it's a problem, remove me from the plane."

Never would've thought they were airtight.
I figured that they within the cabin and therefore also pressurized.

Very good points.

And honestly, you're right about the pet owner not speaking up. I sure as hell would have. I do find it hard to believe the flight attendant didn't know there was a dog in there, though. You can see into dog carriers and it was said the dog was barking.

It's just a really fricked up situation. I certainly wouldn't want to be head of United's PR team right now.
