Who here thinks unions are good, unbiased from self interests compared to the aggregate good the lack of unions nation wide would provide for consumers and the productive workforce in aggregate?

Basically, are unions not forms of domestic terrorism?

Onions?

Naw, they part of the holy trinity, heart.

EDIT: Sorry, misread OP. Union-picked Onions would be just as onion-y though.

Unions are terrible. Once upon a time, they were vital for worker protections. Now they just launder worker money into their own pockets and the pockets of the DNC, and the Workers they fleece have no say in the matter. I heard something like 3k of the price of an American car is solely to cover union associated costs

there are different type of unions. Trade unions in some cases may be good. However, many governmental employees (some making 6 figures) are unionized. Many work in the AC with paid OT, benefits out the ___ and can't get fired without stealing or doing something incredibly stupid.

When you're waiting in a long line for a government service and if the service is poor and you wonder, "why don't they do something about this," you can thank unions.

Teachers unions are largely responsible for problems in our public school system.

I can sort of understand them with things like construction trades. Public unions are weird to me, though. I really don't get it. Why is a state negotiating with anyone? Just set your teachers or police salaries and rules and go.

I mean, they once served a good purpose and for some industries they still do, but it depends on what party (not political... party as in which side you ask) you ask as to whether they are beneficial or not.. But domestic terrorism?

Maybe in the 60s one could make an argument, but today.. No

No, that would be parents who don’t instill the value of education and discipline in their children. I’m a teacher and none of us are in a union.

I’ve been in a union for 20 plus years. It’s very much a love hate relationship. For most of the 20 plus years I’ve wanted out. My union has gone from very strong to very weak because the union decided on more numbers/more dues over quality of workers. It’s now to the point where the lower quality workers are now in control and it’s now just a shell of its former self and I’ll be on my way out here shortly because the job just isn’t what it used to be.

Unions got a bad rep because of the saving of shitty workers jobs but they had their place now I’m not so sure.

Public sector unions are essentially negotiating with political candidates whose campaigns they fund. This is how you get unfireable Chicago middle school teachers pulling down 6 figures.

oh. You and your friends aren’t in unions so I guess I better take back my comment about the neatly 2 million teachers nationwide who are.

There are trades that unions are excellent for keeping quality and craftsmanship up. There are unions responsible for bankrupting entire industries. I agree with Jim, broad brush is broad.

First of all, you sound exactly like a 22 yr old who just found out what a union actually is and realize that today here in BR,LA,USA for the most part they are parasites of the companies and disciplines they represent. Great, that may be so, but way back when they were building the Brooklyn Bridge and going through bodies faster than cables a Union would've helped the labor force and public tremendously. Or TODAY, in India or China, again where they are running through live bodies faster than they are smoke breaks, they need to get the right to organize. So it isn't a black or white issue. Just like politics it is a swinging pendulum.

The CWA and its ineptness trying to retain people that were doing fraudulent shite was largely responsible for the mass loss in telecommunications jobs in the US. Outsourcing to call centers hosted in other countries.

Tradesman unions are good. The kind where guys are hired out of the union hall for construction work.

Mfg unions and public employee unions are past their time and need to go.

They could be, but HR departments have taken away all their nuts and left them a shell.

Then the companies bitch about having to negotiate with the unions.

Not sure what the solution is.

Unions = Mafia Oppression and Control

Many manufactured goods are inflated in price due to the hidden “tax” La Cosa Nostra imposes on the final selling price to the end consumer.
